Lena, our mother, and grandmother passed away peacefully in the Loving Arms of Jesus, surrounded by her family.
She was predeceased by her husbands, Mike Mallick and Jim Varga; her parents, Anthony and Josepha (Klein) Gelowitz; siblings, Martha Flegel, Rudy, Lillian Bogdan, Chris, Ted, and Genevieve; and granddaughter, Cora Lee Mallick.
Lena is survived by her six children: Sandra (Dave) Brown, son, Dean (Melanie), children, Jamie Lyn – Jackson and Vincent, and Darius Brown, of Whitehorse, Yukon; Michael and Lucy Mallick of Sioux Narrows, ON., children – Clint Mallick; and Tanya Cotroneo – Alexia and Tonino; Louise O’Flynn of Kamloops, B.C., sons – Shane and Dylan O’Flynn; Donna Mead of Regina, SK, children, Marty (Rocio) and Donald Spreacker, Amy Cruson – Haven, P.J., Eden and Joshua; Sarah (Ben) Juker of Saskatoon, SK – children, Cassandra, Johnathan, Kevin, Kingsley, Kingslet and Lily; Monica (Darcy) Mang of Killaly, SK., children – Michael, (Alex) and Rowan and Caleb. Siblings: Alvina Appel, Mary (Joe Dauk), and Linda Fraser. Plus many, many relatives and friends.
Lena was born and educated in Grayson, SK. She worked in a hotel in Balcarres; Saskatoon
and Melville hospitals, she sold Avon and worked at Sears in Melville. Lena loved to cook, bake, garden, read, play games, dance, socialize and serve her family. She opened her home to everyone and embraced the Al-anon philosophy.
Some of her good friends included Peggy Backman, Betty Gray, Florence Winnichuk, Bertha Switzer and Emily Novak. She was an incredible wife, mother, and friend.
Although we will miss her and hold her memories dear to us, we look forward to seeing her once again in Heaven.
