Peter Terrance “Terry” Wassell of St. Paul Lutheran Home, beloved husband of Toni Wassell. Terry entered his eternal rest on Friday, March 22, 2019, at St. Paul Lutheran Home in Melville at the age of 86 years.
Terry was the third child born to Peter and Margaret (née Wozniak) Wassell on June 2, 1932. He was born at home, on the family farm, north of Melville, Sask. He attended Oak Hill School from grades 1 to 8, followed by grades 9 to 12 in Melville at St. Henry’s School.
After graduation, Terry farmed with his father and worked briefly on the CNR. Terry was most proud of taking over the operation of the original Wassell homestead, which became a Century Farm in 2002. In 1958 he entered into business selling Case equipment. The first location was on Third Avenue in Melville, Sask. across from Anweiler’s Department Store and later moved to the west end of Melville. In 1974 a property was purchased along the No.10 highway and their first building was constructed and completed in 1976. Over the years, the business moved to two other buildings.
During his time in the business, Terry enjoyed solving all the political woes of the times with many patrons and friends.
On June 11, 1955 he married Antoinette Churko and together they raised six children. Special interests included playing baseball during his younger years and playing at local sports days. In later years, he helped at the Agri-Park from the original building to construction of the grounds, including the fencing around the track and the pens around the barns. He was involved in the cattle committee and various other aspects of Agri-Park.
Terry always enjoyed friends and neighbours visits. His card game of choice was 7’s Wild. Terry found a passion for stone masonry, making stone gateposts and a planter for mom.
Terry is survived by his wife, Toni of 64 years; his children, Tom (Merna) and their children, Paul (Jacklyn) and Makenna, Brynn, Saxton; Karen (Jaime) Calitis and Asher; Katelyn (Graham) Soltys and Connor; Terry (Bev) and their children, Kyle (Rae-Anne), Jayme and Nate; Kris (Jenelle), Liam and Sloan; Kathy Tether (Kelly Shewchuk); Angela; Colin and daughter Parker; Scott (Kristine); Steven Tether; Joanne (Doug) Olsen; Kevin (Tanya), Nicholas and Alexander; David Wassell; and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and neighbours.
Terry was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Margaret Wassell; sister, Marge (Frank Moore); sister, Georgina (Ty) Alquist; and nephew, Peter Alquist.
Prayer services were held on Friday, March 29, 2019 at 8 p.m. from St. Henry’s Roman Catholic Church in Melville with Rev. Fr. Andrew Sowa, OMI presiding.
The funeral mass was celebrated on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at 10 a.m. from St. Henry’s Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Andrew Sowa, OMI as the celebrant. The interment followed in the St. Henry’s Parish Cemetery.
Arrangements were by Bailey’s Funeral Home, Melville.
