Mark Gyug passed away peacefully at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina on Thursday, March 21, 2019, at the age of 82 years.
Mark was born in the Cana district on June 6, 1936 to Frank and Dorothy Gyug. He grew up on the family farm and attended St. Anthal School. When Mark quit school, he worked on the farm and at various jobs until he took up farming full-time. Mark lived on his farm in the Cana district until 2004, then moved into Melville. In January 2019 he became a resident at St. Paul Lutheran Home in Melville.
Mark was predeceased by his partner, Donna; his parents and stepmother; brothers, Ralph and Robert; and brother-in-law Ken Burak.
He is survived by his sisters, Pat Burak, Jeanne (George) Kurtz, Mona (Jerry) Kletchko and Christine (Merv) Bowman; his brothers, Chuck (Bernie), Claude (Dianne), John (Nancy) and Michael; stepbrother Stanley; as well as numerous nephews, nieces, other relatives and many good friends.
Mark’s funeral service was held Thursday, March 28, 2019, at Matthews Funeral Home, Melville, with the Rev. Fr. Andrew Sowa, OMI presiding. Len Gadica led the music and the singing of the hymns, “Be Not Afraid” and “On Eagle’s Wings.” Tributes and memories were presented by Jeanne Kurtz, Sheila Kurtz and Laura Nelson. All those who knew and loved Mark were considered honorary pallbearers.
Interment followed in the Melville City Cemetery with Trevor Gyug, Curtis Gyug, Jeff Gyug, Kent Burak, Lydell Gyug and Sheila Kurtz acting as pallbearers.
Arrangements were entrusted to Matthews Funeral Home, Melville.
