Date of Birth: February 10, 1934

Date of Death: January 15, 2019

Mike James Molnar of Melville, Sask., beloved husband of Joyce Molnar, entered his eternal rest peacefully on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2019 at St. Peter’s Hospital with his family by his side. He was 84 years old.
Mike was born on Feb. 10, 1934 in the McKim district, the 17th child born to George and Helen (nee Bodie) Molnar.
Mike received his education at the West Otthon School.
He married Joyce Gulash on Oct. 10, 1955 at Holy Trinity R.C. Church near McKim. Together the two of them farmed in the McKim district for 42 years, until 1997 when they retired and moved to Melville.
Mike loved a good game of baseball and enjoyed playing pitcher for the McKim team. Curling and horseshoes were also an important part of his enjoyment, but many evenings spent playing cards with his brothers, his sister and their spouses was at the top of his list of things he loved to do. Actually, anything to do with family and friends is what he loved best. He also loved to play his button accordion and at many of our family gatherings we could be found dancing a 7-step, heel-toe polka, or the schottische, as well as singing along with him until he’d cut into the Hungarian songs, then we would just listen.
After retiring to town, Mike dabbled in woodworking, making keepsakes for his children and grandchildren, including jewelry boxes and doll cradles. His favorite pastime in his retirement years was cutting his grass in summer and blowing snow in the winter and many times he could be found doing the same in other yards on Jubilee Crescent.
Mike was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-papa. His siblings, nieces, nephews, their families and his friends held a very special place in his heart.
He was predeceased by his parents, George and Helen; in-laws, John and Julia Gulash; sister, Margaret in infancy; grandson, Michael Pacholko; brothers, John (Mary), Henry (Lizzie), Joe (Goldie), George (Margaret), Victor (Ann), Steve (Betty), Frank (Agnes), Eddie (Julia), Albert (Nancy), Ernie (Margaret) and Ted; sister, Mary (Ermeric) Chillog, Nick, Robert, Willie (Ann); brother-in-law, Don Holhoyi.
Mike leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Joyce, of 63 years; daughters, Karen (Allan) Pacholko, Mavis (Norman) Parachoniak and Dana Reid (Mark Buchholzer); son, Darcy (Risa) Molnar; grandchildren, Alisha (Corey) Tyacke, Justin Mohr (Barb), Colby and Logan Parachoniak, Brayden and Michaela Reid, Lakyn Molnar (Austin), MacKenzie and Zachary Buchholzer; great-grandson, Emerson Tyacke; sisters-in-law, Martha, Olga and Janet Molnar; Gulash-in-laws, Ed (Betty), Jackie, Larry (Lynn), Violet Holhoyi, Leona (Ed) Weber, Irvin (Janet); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
The funeral mass was celebrated on Monday, Jan. 21, 2019 from St. Henry’s Roman Catholic Church in Melville with Rev. Fr. Andrew Sowa, OMI, as the celebrant.
Arrangements were by Bailey’s Funeral Home, Melville.
