It is with sadness that the family of Harvey Tubman announces his peaceful passing at St. Peter’s Hospital, Melville, Sask. on Monday, Jan. 7, 2019. Harvey had an inoperable aneurysm for many years that contributed to his death.
Harvey was born on June 2, 1935 to George and Katharina (Busch) Tubman. He received his schooling in Melville and was employed by the CNR as a carman for 35 years until his retirement in June of 1990. Harvey began his employment in 1955 with a midnight shift for 12 years, and after this, he switched to a day shift in the car shops for seven years, many of which were working with the wreck dozer. He was never laid off, fortunately being the last man on the list.
On Nov. 7, 1954, Harvey married the love of his life, Arlene Hauser. Their marriage was blessed with three children: daughters, Charlene and Channon; and son, Kim.
Harvey enjoyed socializing with friends and attending local dances. He also took much pride in his yards, always keeping them immaculate.
He enjoyed spending time at the lake, especially family gatherings when the grandchildren and great-grandchildren came along. Harvey and Arlene also enjoyed travelling to Bermuda, Hawaii and Mexico.
Harvey was predeceased by his father, George; his mother, Katharina; brother, George; brothers-in-law, Doug Wolfe and Herb Hauser; and sister-in-law, Lil Hauser.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Arlene; daughter, Charlene Chipeur, and husband Ralph of Regina; son, Kim, and wife Charleen, grandson Landon Tubman (Abby Chegwin) and their children, Wagner and Maci, grandson Braden Tubman (Sharlese) and their children, Aurora and Kylie, all of Melville, and granddaughter, Chandra Tubman (Tyler Heise) of Pilot Butte; daughter, Channon Tubman of Regina. He is also survived by his sister, Carol Wolfe of Vilna, Alta.; and brother, Bob (Bonnie) Tubman, of Spruce Grove, Alta.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Harvey’s funeral service was held Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Melville, with the Rev. Kim Sherwin officiating. The organist, Gaylene Matthews, led in the hymns, “Great is Thy Faithfulness,” “You Have Come Down to the Lakeshore” and “How Great Thou Art.”
Interment followed in the Melville City Cemetery.
Arrangements were entrusted to Matthews Funeral Home, Melville.
