Date of Birth: September 23, 1933

Date of Death: January 5, 2019

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Andy Famulak at St. Peter’s Hospital, Melville, Sask., on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019 with his family by his side.
Andrew was born on Sept. 23, 1933, in Melville, Sask. He attended East End School and then worked at the CNR from 1951-90 as a switchman, yardmaster and general yard master, which he thoroughly enjoyed.
After his retirement in 1990, he and Joyce dedicated many hours to their love of cats, taking care of strays at the Pinder homestead on a daily basis. He also spent many hours with his mom, Anne, until her passing.
Andy was the jokester and lifeline of his family, smiling, laughing and enjoying life to the fullest. He always had great advice for his girls and had an amazing perspective on life, living, laughing and loving. We will miss the wisdom, guidance and strength he provided to his family.
Andy enjoyed sports, including baseball, hockey, football, golf and curling. He skipped for many years at the Melville Curling Club and played goalie with his brothers, Ed and Sonny, as defencemen.
Andy was predeceased by his father, Peter; mother, Anne; sister, Mary St. Michael; brother-in-law, Mark; brother, Sonny; sister-in-law, Sally; sister-in-law, Sonja; sister-in-law, Merle Andres; and brother-in-law, Peter Andres.
He will be dearly missed and remembered by his wife, Joyce; daughter, Darcelle Lemaire, grandsons, Kevin Kachur (Kylie) and Chris Kachur (Laura); daughter, Melanie Famulak, grandsons, Jordan and Jared Gulaga; four great-grandchildren, Ariana, Jayden, Danica and Declan Kachur; brother, Ed Famulak; sister, Florence (Walter) Hook; and several nieces, nephews and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Paws & Claws, Rebel Cat Rescue or St. Peter’s Hospital.
Many thanks to the amazing staff at St. Paul Lutheran Home and St. Peter’s Hospital for their love, care and compassion. As Frank Sinatra sang and Dad lived, “I did it my way!”
We are thankful for the many wonderful memories. A celebration of life will be held in the summer, date to be announced as per his wish. To leave an online condolence, visit matthewsfuneralhome.ca
Arrangements are entrusted to Matthews Funeral Home, Melville.
