It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Walter Eurich of Lemberg, Sask., at the Balcarres Integrated Care Centre on Friday, Dec. 7, 2018 at the age of 98 years, one month shy of his 99th birthday.
Walter was predeceased by an infant daughter, Heather; his parents, Henry and Mary Eurich; sisters, Katie, Mary, Minnie and Dorothy; and brothers, Henry and Alex.
He is survived by his wife, Irma; son, Cam (Bernie) and daughter, Maureen (Bob); grandchildren, Kimberly (Sean), Jenna (Derek), Andrew (Nicole), Kaeli (John), Brady (Sarah); and great-grandchildren, Layne, Matthew, Sophia, Joseph and Paige.
Walter’s church and his faith was so very important to him. He was very active in the Lemberg community his whole life and loved to spend time at the cottage at Katepwa, his favourite place on Earth.
A heartfelt thank you to the staff at the Pasqua Hospital, Fort Qu’Appelle All Nations’ Healing Hospital and the Balcarres Integrated Care Centre for their excellent care. A special thank you to Dr. Hasantha for the special bond he and dad had and for his compassionate care.
Walter’s funeral service was held on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lemberg, Sask., with the Rev. Kim Sherwin officiating. Organist, Lorraine Geres, led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, “Softly and Tenderly,” “Because He Lives” and “When Peace Like a River.” A eulogy was presented by Maureen Pfeifer, and scripture was read by Kimberly Engel, Victoria Mwamasika and Kaeli Eurich. Honorary pallbearers included all of Walter’s coffee buddies.
Interment took place in the Lemberg Cemetery with Jim Pfeifer, Doug Seidel, Terry Dreger, Greg Barkman, Glen Michael and Todd Poier acting as pallbearers.
Arrangements were entrusted to Matthews Funeral Home, Melville.
