Date of Birth: April 15, 1924

Date of Death: December 11, 2018

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Eugene Nicholas Cymbalisty on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2018 at the age of 94 years.
Eugene was born on April 15, 1924 to Nick and Barbara Cymbalisty of Mikado, Sask. He was the middle of three children with older sister, Julia (Fullawka) and younger brother, Modest.
In 1950, Eugene began work with the CN Railway in Melville, Sask. It was here that he met the love of his life, Noreen Kurtz. The two were married on June 19, 1954 and together raised four daughters. Eugene retired in 1985 after 35 years with the CN as an engineer. To this day, we were told fond stories from co-workers of how he cooked for the boys in the bunkhouse.
Eugene continued to keep himself busy over the years by renovating houses, riding his bike to the grocery store and having coffee with the boys. It was well known among many that Eugene’s love for garage sales was almost as strong as the love he had for his family. His keen eye for great finds allowed him to pass along many cherished items to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Eugene is survived by his children, Eugenie Cymbalisty, Leslie (Ken) Matechuk, Sharon (Tom) Rokosh and Joanne (Byron) Peterson; his eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife of nearly 64 years, Noreen; his parents, Nicholas and Barbara; as well as his sister, Julia; brother, Modest; and grandson, Ken Matechuk.
We will miss Eugene’s warm smile, generous heart and kind soul — he left the world a better place. He loved family and family gatherings, and we will miss watching the joy he felt while cooking and sharing with family and friends.
The family would like to thank Chaplain Brian Mee, Pastor Phil Schwindt and the nurses and many staff members of St. Paul Lutheran Home and St. Peter’s Hospital for the care given to Eugene over the last few years.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Melville.
A celebration of Eugene and Noreen’s lives will take place in spring 2019.
Arrangements are entrusted to Matthews Funeral Home, Melville.
