MORHART – Tilly (Irene), beloved wife of Mel Morhart, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2018, at St. Peter’s Hospital, Melville, Sask., at the age of 82 years.
Irene Matilda (Tilly) was born on Dec. 5, 1935 at Endeavour, Sask., to Susan (nee Gall) and Steve Nagy.
Tilly attended school at Stoney Acre and Endeavour. She married Iver Schwitzer on Nov. 6, 1956 in Stockholm, Sask., and they had one son, Ronald Edward, born Sept. 1960 at Esterhazy Hospital.
While they lived on the farm near Bangor, Tilly worked at the Morris Lodge and then the legion in Esterhazy. Iver passed away in 1985, and Tilly stayed on the farm for several years. Then she met the love of her life, Mel Morhart, and they were married April 20, 1991 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Melville.
Tilly loved children and started babysitting full-time at their current home in 1992. She loved ice fishing and gardening with Mel and tending to her flowers. Tilly loved baking her Hungarian torte cake for family and friends and reading many books over the years.
Tilly was predeceased by her parents, Susan and Steve Nagy; her first husband, Iver Gordon Schwitzer; siblings, Steve, Joe, Gaza and Albert Nagy; sister-in-law, Bernice (Bill) Hudy; and brothers-in-law, James Morhart, Bill Vargo and George Griggs.
She is survived by her husband, Mel; son, Ron Schwitzer; siblings, Mary Vargo, Mike (Gaetane) Nagy, Louise (Willy) Nagy, Margaret Griggs and Lloyd (Trina) Nagy; sisters-in-law, Mary Nagy, Vivian Nagy, Dianne (Richard) Schmidt, Jacqueline Tucker; stepsons, Murray Morhart and Barry Morhart; five step-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews and many special friends.
The vigil service for Tilly was held Sunday, Sept. 9, 2018, at Matthews Funeral Home, Melville, with the Rev. Fr. Andrew Sowa, OMI, presiding.
Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Monday, Sept. 10, 2018, at St. Henry’s Roman Catholic Church, Melville, with Fr. Andrew and Deacon Dave Hudy celebrating. Len Gadica led the music and Sharon Duczek and Florence Parlee were the readers.
Interment took place in St. Henry’s Parish Cemetery with Leon Exner, Marty Nagy, Tyler Nagy, Albert Wihlidal, Tommy Bear and Ken Bauman acting as pallbearers.
Arrangements were entrusted to Matthews Funeral Home, Melville, Sask.
