NESS – It is with heavy hearts that we, his family, share Brian’s passing on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon, with Linda and family by his side.
Brian was born Nov. 7, 1963 to Omar and Evelyn Ness in Melville, Sask. Brian did all his schooling in Melville and graduated from Melville Comprehensive School in 1981. Brian’s first job was as a paper boy for the Regina Leader-Post. He then had jobs with Bonick’s Auto Service, Pilon’s Electric and Terry’s Auto Body.
Brian began his career with CN Rail on March 30, 1984. He first started in Melville and then transferred to Saskatoon Intermodal in August of 1996. He was employed with CN until his passing, where he made numerous friends — in fact the team Brian worked with will be his honorary pallbearers.
Brian married his true love, Linda Lorraine Allison Herbert, on Aug. 18, 1984. They had been happily married for almost 34 years. Children were not in their cards, but lots of nieces, nephews and puppies were a huge part of Brian’s life. There was never a lack of love for any of them. Brian always had a quick wit and a ready smile and was always at the ready to tease and torment his nieces and nephews.
Brian and Linda enjoyed numerous vacations with friends and family throughout their married life. One of the most recent was a trip Brian and Linda made to Hawaii with Red and Gladys. The picture proves it.
Another love of Brian’s was his sports. He loved the Toronto Blue Jays baseball team, Winnipeg Jets hockey team and the Saskatchewan Roughriders football team. He missed very few of those games.
Brian was predeceased by his father, Omar (Nov. 7, 1983); his mother, Evelyn (June 20, 2017); as well as his grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and his beloved puppies.
Brian is survived by his loving wife, Linda; and their puppy, Christie; his sister, Sharon Ness (Tamara and Scott); brother, Larry and Theresa (Jen, Blair, Calynn, Allegra, Stephanie, Chad, Mitchel, P.J., Steve and Dayton); brother, Darryl and Linda (Dustin, Amanda, Jeffrey, Janaya, Jaxon and Rebecca); baby sister, Adele and Larry Yeadon (Allison, Matthew, Katelyn, Jared, Brittany and Erin); Brian’s in-law family: Red and Gladys Herbert (Buddy), Butch and Kim Herbert (Melissa, Quinn, Crosby, Brett, Amanda, Dantaye, Deaghan, Sawyer, Haylea and Brett) and Mark and Louella Herbert (Nicole, Caleb, Gary, Jessica and Evan).
Brian was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma on July 25, 2017. After numerous chemotherapy treatments, Brian fought hard and without complaint. He always had that smile on his face even coming out of treatments. He was just amazing. He will be dearly missed by all who loved him and knew him.
Brian’s funeral service will be held Friday, June 1, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Melville. It was Brian’s request that no ties be worn at his service.
Interment will take place in the Melville City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made
in memory of Brian to the Royal University Hospital Foundation, Saskatoon.
Arrangements are entrusted to Matthews Funeral Home, Melville.
