It is with deep sadness that the family of Mary Konechny announce her sudden passing on Monday, Jan. 1, 2018 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Melville, SK at the age of 94 years.
Mary was born on Aug. 13, 1923 at Lemberg, a daughter to Alex and Rose (Lutzko) Yazura.
Mary was raised and received her education at Lemberg then moved to Melville and worked at a butcher shop and restaurant. There she met her future husband Victor and started a family.
Victor passed away in 1983 in Regina, SK at the age of 68. Mary continued to reside in Melville in her own home where she spent many hours in her bountiful vegetable garden and tending to her beautiful flowerbeds. She also enjoyed knitting, sewing, quilting, cooking, baking and was a social butterfly.
Mary enjoyed visiting friends, hosting holiday dinners, and babysitting her grandchildren. For a major part of her life she cared for her dependent daughter, Betty Ann.
Mary was an active member of St. Henry’s Church and a member of the Rosary Sodality.
Predeceased by her parents, Alex and Rose; her husband, Victor in 1983; her son, Patrick in 2014; brothers, Alex (Adele) Yazura and John Yazura; sister, Ann Muntain.
Mary leaves to cherish her memory her two sons, Norman (Cindy) of Melville, SK and Barry of Saskatoon, SK; her one daughter, Betty Ann of Melville, SK; two grandchildren, Tamara (Dwayne) Lakusta of Fort Sask, AB and Shonalee (Jesse) Rhinas of Moose Jaw, SK; two step-grandchildren, Dana (Calvin) Vasileff of Spruce Grove, AB and Melissa Pifko of Red Deer, AB; four grandchildren, Kamryn, Brady, Zachren and Nathan; three step-grandchildren, Kayden, Myann and Hailen; as well as numerous dear friends, nieces, nephews and especially her special friend at St. Paul Lutheran Home.
The Prayer Service was held on Sunday, Jan. 7, 2018 from St. Henry’s Roman Catholic Church and the Funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday, Jan. 8, 2018 at 10 a.m. from St. Henry’s Church with Rev. Fr. Andrew Sowa OMI as the Celebrant.
Arrangements were by Bailey’s Funeral and Cremation Care, Melville.
