HADUBIAK – Ian Matthew.
It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we say goodbye to Ian Hadubiak who died suddenly on Saturday, July 1, 2017 at the age of 24 years. Ian Matthew was born May 3, 1993, at St. Peter’s Hospital, Melville, SK. He was the third of four children and was a son to Doug and Connie, and a brother to Kyle, Ryan and Leah. Ian attended his first years of school at Miller Elementary and then moved on to Davison and Melville Comprehensive schools, later graduating at the Parkland Regional College. During his school years, Ian was part of the band, playing the bass trombone and attending many band trips. The United Church was a big part of his life, a second family of sorts. He had a love for the outdoors at a young age where he participated in the Beavers, Cubs and Scouting programs. Later, Ian joined the Melville Air Cadets and enjoyed the many activities including gliding, cadet camp trips and summer camp programs, where he took on the responsibility of working as a summer camp Supply Officer. Ian was also a member of the Tru-Flite Melville Archery Club and always greatly anticipated the annual outdoor 3D shoots. Growing up, Ian would take on grass-cutting jobs for family friends and neighbours for extra spending money. Because he had a really hard time saying no to anybody, sometimes he would take on too many jobs and had to recruit his dad for help. Ian eventually left home and moved to Yorkton for work, where he worked at Sobeys and later the Gallagher Centre.
Everyone who knew Ian knew he had a real zest for life, a heart of gold, and that he was a real people person. He would strike up a conversation with anyone, always willing to help or share if someone needed something. Ian never had money in his wallet, but if he had an extra dollar, he wouldn’t think twice about buying something or giving it away to someone who needed it. One of the many things Ian will be remembered for is his giggle or laugh; it was so infectious that before you knew it, he would have the entire room laughing. Family and friends were very important to Ian, and spending time with them was a priority for him. He rarely missed any family holiday get-togethers, and was always there for family birthdays or events with his aunts, uncles and cousins. That being said, Ian didn’t need a special event to come see family and friends; sometimes all it took was a call saying “hey, let’s play cards,” or “we made too much for supper”, and Ian would be on his way.
The numerous family camping trips were important to Ian, and he would count down the days until every trip. Sitting with family visiting by the campfire, joking around laughing, playing cards or games, and making popcorn were his favourite things. Ian was the popcorn guy making the best popcorn over the open fire, never burning it. He loved to go fishing in the boat on the lake with family but was often found doing more talking than fishing.
Ian was always excited for the yearly family trips to the Regina Exhibition to spend time with cousins going on all the rides. He was also a big Roughrider fan and wouldn’t miss an opportunity to attend a game or watch it on TV with family. Visiting the family farm was a huge part of Ian’s life. He loved going for tea to visit with his grandparents, enjoying grandma’s baking, playing cards or cuddling with the cats. Ian could often be found playing video games. He spent countless hours and late nights playing and chatting with his brothers and cousins. Ian, in your short life, you touched so many people with your honesty, friendship, infectious smile, contagious giggle and your big heart. You will be greatly missed by all who knew you. Ian will be dearly missed by his parents, Doug and Connie, his brothers, Kyle (companion Amanda), Ryan and sister, Leah. Also grieving this immense loss are his grandpa, Peter Andres and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Ian was predeceased by grandparents, Bill Hadubiak, Phyllis Hadubiak and Merle Andres, and by cousin, Terry (TJ) Reinhart. Ian, you will be forever in our hearts.
Ian’s life was celebrated with a prayer service on Friday, July 7, 2017 at Matthews Funeral Home and a funeral service Saturday, July 8, 2017 at First United Church, Melville, SK. Presiding at the services was the Rev. Brian Mee and the music was led by Shirley Blakley. The scriptures for the prayers were read by Marianne Glowa and Denis Sanche and for the funeral by Kim Rutzki and Lisa Alspach. Memories were shared at both gatherings by Ian’s brother, Kyle.
