Alice Lillian Papic (née Boyton), aged 92 years, of Moose Jaw, Sask., passed away peacefully during the morning on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at her residence at Chez Nous.
Lily was born and raised on the family farm in the Lillestrom district. She loved horses and was a helping hand to her dad.
Lily married Phillip Barnett on Nov. 8, 1944 at Boharm, Sask. They were blessed with two sons, Gordon and Donald, whom they raised in Moose Jaw.
Phillip was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and Lily cared for him until his passing. She later met and married Peter Papic and was employed at Canaday’s Apparel at that time. Lily and Peter decided to take a barber and hairdressing course and then opened a shop in Melville, Sask., which they owned for 30 years.
During Lily’s retirement, she enjoyed gardening, nature and animals. Her selfless personality was apparent with the loving acts of kindness she gave to her community.
After Peter’s passing, Lily returned to Moose Jaw to be close to family. She was very grateful for the time she spent, and the friendship and care she received, at Mulberry Estates and Chez Nous Nursing Home.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Phillip Barnett; second husband, Peter Papic; parents, Winnifred and Percy Boyton; sisters, Muriel (Doug) Hill, Margorie (Red) Delyea and Annie Campbell; brother, Arthur Boyton; and her son, Donald.
Lily will be lovingly remembered by her son, Gordon; grandchildren, Todd, Trent (Krista) and Angela (Brendan); daughter-in-law, Cheryl; grandchildren, Danielle (Jason), Rob (Leanne) and Corinne (Jeff); 13 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Kay, Donna (Fred), Dorothy (Mitch) and Geraldine; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service was held on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. at the Moose Jaw Funeral Home with Dave Foley officiating. As an expression of sympathy, donations in Lil’s name may be made to The Canadian Diabetes Association, 917A Albert St., Regina, SK S4R 2P6.
