Evelyn Doreen Ness (nee Goebel) of Melville, Sask., entered her eternal rest on Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at the age of 86 years.
Evelyn was born in Melville on Nov. 5, 1930. She was raised and attended school in Melville. In her early years she worked at the King George Hotel and the Beanery. She then met and later married Omar Ness on Oct. 28, 1953 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Melville — this union was blessed with five children. Evelyn was a full-time homemaker and in her later years she worked at various jobs, including Jay-Dee Family Footwear, Robinsons and Hague’s Greenhouse, and was well known as the burger flipper at the Melville Millionaire hockey games.
In 2013, Evelyn moved to Heritage House in Melville where she enjoyed spending time with new friends and acquaintances.
Evelyn was predeceased by: her parents, Leonard and Leopoldine Goebel; husband, Omar Ness in 1983; brothers, Len, Ernie, Harold and Rick; sisters, Gladys and Elizabeth (in infancy).
She is survived by a daughter, Sharon Ness; granddaughter, Tamara (Scott) Horsey, all of Whitehorse, Yukon; son, Larry (Theresa) Ness of Harrison Hot Springs, B.C.; granddaughter, Jennifer (Blair) Hetherington; great-granddaughters, Calynn and Allegra of Abbotsford, B.C.; granddaughter, Stephanie Ness and fiancé Chad (son Mitchell) of Perth, Australia; step-granddaughter, PJ (Steve) Coltman; step-great-grandson, Dayton of Pritchard, B.C.; son, Brian (Linda) Ness of Saskatoon, Sask.; son, Darryl (Linda) Ness; grandsons, Dustin Ness (Amanda), Jeffery Ness (Janaya and son, Jaxon Rask); and granddaughter, Rebecca Ness, all of Saskatoon, Sask.; daughter, Adele (Larry) Yeadon of Melville, Sask.; granddaughters, Allison Yeadon (fiancé Matthew) of Saskatoon, Sask.; and Katelyn Yeadon of Melville,
Sask.; grandson, Jared Yeadon (Brittany) of Melville, Sask.; and granddaughter, Erin Yeadon of Melville, Sask. She is also survived by a brother, Don (Ruth) Goebel of Melville, Sask.; brother-in-law, Henry Senetza of Cranbrook, B.C.; sister-in-law, Sylvia Nelson of Oakville, Ont.; brother-in-law, Gordon (Freda) Ness of Edmonton, Alta.; sister-in-law, Pearl Ness of Melville, Sask.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Evelyn’s funeral service was held Monday, June 26, 2017 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Melville with the Rev. Doug Schmirler officiating and Margaret Anne Yost assisting. The accompanist, Nora Cochrane, led in the hymns, “How Great Thou Art” and “Amazing Grace.” The recorded songs, “Dancing in the Sky” by Dani and Lizzy and “Precious Memories” by the Statler Brothers were played in tribute. Evelyn’s daughter-in-law, Theresa Ness, shared family memories.
All of Evelyn’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren were considered honourary pallbearers, and her eldest and youngest grandchildren, Jennifer Hetherington and Erin Yeadon, acted as urn bearers.
Interment took place in the Melville City Cemetery.
Arrangements were entrusted to Matthews Funeral Home, Melville.
