Alex passed away peacefully at St. Paul’s Hospital on Monday, June 12, 2017.
He was predeceased by Netty, his loving wife of 61 years; his parents, Hnat and Katherine; his brothers, Matt, Mike, Joe and George; sisters, Mary Hrebeniuk, Anne Dumka, Rose Petlock and Margaret Halyk; as well as numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Alex is survived by his brothers, Jack, Bill, Andrew (Helen), Boris (Anne) and Peter (Nancy); sisters, Pearl Skorobohach, Alice Zwarich and Elizabeth Sawchyn; brother-in-law, Bunny Halyk; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Alex was born and raised in Goodeve. In 1950, he married Netty Halyk and they moved to Swift Current. He was head professional at Elm Wood Golf Club from 1965 to 1974. Alex was involved in the provincial junior golf program for 31 years. Young golfers he instructed were often known as ‘Kozy’s Kids’. If you played golf or curled in Saskatchewan in the last 40 years, you no doubt ran into ‘Kozy’.
Alex was honoured with life memberships in the SGA, RCGA in 1990 and received the Saskatchewan PGA life-time achievement award in 2004. He was inducted into the Saskatchewan Golf Hall of Fame.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Ron Kozakavich for the special care he gave Kozy over the years. We also thank the doctors and nurses on the sixth floor and second floor of St. Paul’s Hospital for their excellent care and kindness to Alex.
There will be no service, as per Kozy’s request.
