Donald Michael Taschuk of St. Paul Lutheran Home, Melville, Sask., and formerly of Birmingham, entered his eternal rest on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at St. Paul Home at the age of 69 years.
Don was born on Feb. 12, 1948 in Melville, Sask., a son to Wasyl and Katie (nee Glowa) Taschuk. Don received his education the Birmingham School and completed his education at Melville High School. While attending school, Don helped his parents on the family farm as well as working for the neighbours. Don drove bus for Halyk’s Bus Line, then began his employment with the CNR as a conductor, retiring in 2003. While working, Don took over the family farm and continued to farm until having an auction sale in 2008.
He enjoyed playing ball, watching hockey, driving to Yorkton, waiting for Mary and Bunny to pick him up to go to Tim Hortons and meeting his buddies for coffee. Most of all, his best friend and companion was Ebony, his dog. Don enjoyed birthdays, especially his own, parties in his quonset were opened for any occasion even though Mary and Bunny had to get it ready. He looked forward to attending his 50th school reunion this year. Along with his passion of collecting toy farm equipment, Don’s motorcycle was his pride and joy with which he would participate in summer parades.
Don was a very devoted member of St. Mary the Protectress Ukrainian Orthodox Church, as well as helping out any time it was needed. He also was a lifetime member of Local 1144 United Transportation Union.
Don loved his house in Birmingham, but due to health complications he became a resident at St. Paul Lutheran Home on May 26, 2016.
Predeceased by his father, Wasyl; mother Katie; twin brother, Daniel; and brother-in-law, Myron Pachal.
Don leaves to cherish his memory: his sister, Margaret Pachal; his niece, Shelley (Dave) Nussbaumer and their children, Rory; Vanessa (Taylor) Rovig, their daughter Paisley; nephew, Curtis (LeeAnne) and their children, Taylor and Tanner; special friends, Mary Kuciuk and Bunny Halyk.
Prayer services were held on Friday, March 24, 2017 at 7 p.m. from the Chapel of Bailey’s Funeral Home in Melville.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 10 a.m. from the Chapel of Bailey’s Funeral Home with Very Rev. Mel Slashinsky of St. Mary the Protectress Ukrainian Orthodox Church officiating.
Don’s family wish to thank the doctors, nurses, care aids and rest of the staff for their kindness and care shown to Don while he was a resident at St. Paul Home.
