It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Zelma Prokopiw. Zelma entered her eternal rest on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at St. Peter’s Hospital at the age of 83 years.
Zelma was born on Dec. 26, 1933 in the Hubbard district of Saskatchewan, a daughter of Andrew and Eva (nee Krysowaty) Kentz. Zelma grew up on the family farm 10 miles north of Hubbard. She received her education at Hard Rock School. Zelma raised five wonderful children east of Goodeve.
In 1985, Zelma was united in marriage to Matt Prokopiw. The couple resided in Goodeve and continued to farm until 1993 when they retired and moved to Melville.
Zelma was predeceased by her husband, Matt; son, Peter, in infancy; son, Brent; parents, Andrew and Eva Kentz, five sisters, Florence, Lena, Elsie, Betty and Mary; three brothers, Roman, John and Walter.
Zelma leaves to cherish her memory: her children, Ken (Bev), Garry (Shelley), John (Joanne), Kevin (Loralee); her grandchildren, Nathan (Chelsea), Angela, Garett, Erica (Christian), Megan (Gary), Corey (Cora), Leon (Kristina), Coralie (Daniel), David (Crystal) and Mason; her great-grandchildren, Jaidyn, KC, Bridgette, Taija, Conner, Brayden, Aaron, Tyler, Sarah, Hunter, Jace, Kaitlin, Abigail, Isabella, Chance, Aubrey and Ashdon; her brother, Edward; Matt Prokopiw’s family; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Zelma will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all those who knew her.
Prayer services were held on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at 7 p.m. from St. Henry’s Roman Catholic Church in Melville.
The funeral mass was celebrated on Friday, March 17, 2017 at 10 a.m. from St. Henry’s Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Father Mieczyslaw Burdzy, OMI, as the celebrant.
Arrangements were by Bailey’s Funeral Home, Melville.
