The Lester family is sad to announce the passing of Elsie Vera (Hardy) Lester, age 93, on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2017, in Saskatoon, Sask.
Elsie was born on Oct. 27, 1923 in the Oak Hill district to Joseph and Victoria Hardy. Mom was the middle child of seven children. At the age of 16, Mom left home to attend Marvel Beauty School in Winnipeg. After graduating she returned to the Yorkton area where she met Leonard Lester, who was enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force. They were married in December of 1943. Mom and Dad were blessed with 10 children who were their pride and joy; Mom was always happiest when with her children. Her kids gave her 31 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Mom was one of the longest standing members of the CWL in Melville and very involved with St. Henry’s Parish. She was on the St. Peter’s Hospital Auxiliary and a member of the Rosary Sodality. She was very involved with the Melville Seniors Association as well.
Mom loved camping, gardening, music and dancing; and she was a formidable card player. Spending time with her family and friends was her greatest joy.
Mom was predeceased by her husband; and two great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her children: Barry (Helen), Dianne (Steve Muzyka), Veronica (Denis Courchene), Leonard (Christine), Tim (Wendy), Craig (Sandy), Danny (Theresa), Stacie, Leonora (Richard Farber) and Lindsay (Lori).
Elsie’s vigil service was held Sunday, Feb. 26, 2017 at Matthews Funeral Home, Melville with Sr. Theresa Kreiser and Rosalie Woloschuk presiding. The eulogist was Chris Lester and the music was provided by Len Gadica.
Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Monday, Feb. 27, 2017 at St. Henry’s Roman Catholic Church, Melville with the Rev. Fr. Mitch Burdzy, OMI celebrating.
The cross bearer was Jerred Lawson and the readers were Lianne Lester, Nicole Lester and Megan Farber. The singing was led by Len Gadica and Sr. Theresa Kreiser was the eucharistic minister.
The pallbearers were Barry Lester, Leonard Lester, Tim Lester, Craig Lester, Dan Lester and Lindsay Lester.
Following cremation, interment took place on Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017 in the Melville City Cemetery.
Arrangements were entrusted to Matthews Funeral Home, Melville.
