Date of Birth: December 2, 1936

Date of Death: January 20, 2017

Oliver “Ollie” Martin Rawn of Melville, Sask., beloved husband of Adeline Rawn, entered his eternal rest on Friday, Jan. 20, 2017 at the age of 80 years.
Oliver was born in Melville Sask. on Dec. 2, 1936 to Mary and Martin Rawn and lived in Melville all of his life.
He was united in marriage to Adeline (Sikora) on June 9, 1962 at St. Henry’s Roman Catholic Church in Melville and the couple were blessed with two children, Lorie and Kevin.
Oliver worked for CN Rail for 35 years. He started his career in his late teens as a break-man in 1955. He finished his career as a conductor and was very happy to be able to enjoy “freedom 55” when he retired in 1991.
He was a hard working and self-sufficient man, who when work was presented to him, he didn’t back down, and he got the family involved to tackle the job. Jobs like painting the house, laying brick, shingling the cabin in gale force winds didn’t scare him away. He got the family out and got the job done. He spent many hours helping out various friends and family with harvest as well.
Over the years, Oliver enjoyed curling, where he was quite successful, winning many bonspiels and curling events. He helped out in the curling rink often, while he ran the canteen and also enjoyed being in charge of and running a bonspiel every now and then. This also gave Ollie some very interesting stories to tell.
He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, which he did with various friends and family. His heart was at the lake where he spent a lot of his time at the cabin in the Qu’Appelle Valley, enjoying the company of and entertaining many family and friends over the years.
Ollie was a fierce competitor when playing cards. This was one of his hobbies that he still enjoyed and brought the family and friends together to the table for a game and conversation. He was also an active member of the Melville Elks. Ollie was always willing to join in for any event. He always supported his friends and family and turned everything into a fun time. From the smiles on his face in the pictures, even making perogies was fun.
We will all remember Ollie’s incredible smile and hearty laugh. He was a kind, gentle, humble, fun-loving and caring man and will be missed by us all.
Ollie leaves to cherish his memory: his wife of 54 years, Adeline (Sikora); his children, Lorie Rawn (Colin) and Kevin Rawn (Jocelyn); grandchildren, Ethan and Riley Rawn and Jenna and Colby McLean; sister, Violet Bird (Jim); sister-in-laws, Violet Wylie (John), Antoinette Hrab and Darlene Elliott (Kel); brother-in-laws, Eddie Sikora (Aurie) and Stanley Sikora (Janet); as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Predeceased by his parents, Mary and Martin Rawn; brother-in-law, Mike Hrab; sister-in-law, Arlene Sikora; nephews, David Bird and Neal Sikora and Buddy (their Yorkshire Terrier pup).
