Wilfred Kopetzki of St. Paul Lutheran Home, Melville, Sask., and formerly of Grayson, Sask., entered his eternal rest peacefully on Monday, Dec. 5, 2016 at St. Paul Lutheran Home with family at his side. He was 86 years of age.
Wilfred was born in the Grayson area on Nov. 8, 1930 to Peter and Theresa (nee Fuchs) Kopetzki. Wilfred was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Grayson.
Wilfred, together with his brother, Ferdinand, farmed the homestead for over 60 years. Farming consisted of grain and cattle. They also had a lush potato garden, which kept them very busy.
Wilfred enjoyed playing hockey, old-time music, especially the accordion. Wilfred was an active member of St. Mary’s Church in Grayson and St. Henry’s Church in Melville. Around 15 years ago, Ferdinand and Wilfred sold the homestead and moved into Melville. Ferdinand passed away in 2012 and Wilfred was unable to look after himself and moved in with his sister, Matlida. On Nov. 20, 2014 he became a resident at St. Paul Lutheran Home.
Predeceased by his parents, Peter and Theresa Kopetzki; sisters, Mary Kopetzki and Matilda Hanowski; brothers, Ferdinand and Ewald; brothers-in-law, Adam Hanowski and Ferdinand Bernhardt.
Wilfred leaves to cherish his memory, the family of the late Matilda and Adam Hanowski: the family of the late Edwald Kopetzki; sister, Irene Bernhardt and her family; brother, Siegfred and; sister, Theresa (Pat) Hahn and their family; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Prayer services were held on Sunday, Dec. 11, 2016 at 7 p.m. The guneral mass was celebrated on Monday, Dec. 12, 2016 at 10 a.m. from St. Henry’s Roman Catholic Church in Melville with Rev. Fr. Mieczyslaw Burdzy OMI. as the celebrant.
Arrangements were by Bailey’s Funeral Home, Melville.
