Gordon Maurer unexpectedly, but peacefully, went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, Oct. 30, 2016 at the age of 77 years.
He was born to Martha and Jacob Maurer on his parents’ homestead near Neudorf, Sask. on June 10, 1939. He began school in 1946 at Roadside School and finished his formal education by Grade 8 at Garden School. Gordon began farming full time in the spring of 1955.
He was married to Leonella Lutz in 1961 and had two children, Kenneth Gordon in 1964 and Lois Marie (Ferguson) in 1966. Gordon moved the family to Calgary in the spring of 1968, where he built their home. In 1981, Gordon and Leonella went their separate ways.
He worked as a cabinet maker and millworker for Jager Homes for 11 years, until 1979 when he took over management of Lux Windows, until his early retirement in 1990.
On Dec. 15, 1984, Gordon married Ursula Maria Winkler (nee Schink).  Along with Ursula came her two daughters, Angela Ursula and Monika Bettina.
Gordon is lovingly remembered by his wife, Ursula; son, Ken (Marion) Maurer; daughter, Lois (Ed) Ferguson; step-daughters, Angela (Don) Hemphill and Monika Davidson (Ken Stewart); as well as 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Gordon is also remembered by his sister, Elaine (Paul) Schick; and numerous nieces, nephews; godchildren; as well as many extended family members and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, Jacob and Martha; and brothers, Peter, Ernest and Norman Maurer.
A Celebration of his Life was held at St. John Lutheran Church, 204 – 6A Street NE, Calgary, Alta., on Thursday, Nov. 10, 2016 at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Kayko Driedger Hesslein officiating.
Interment of his urn will be in Neudorf, Sask. at a later date.
