Yvonne Hollinger of Melville, Sask., and formerly of Neudorf, Sask., passed away Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2016 at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina, Sask.
Yvonne Margaret was born Feb. 8, 1935 at the family farm north of Neudorf, to Jacob and Emma (nee Ulmer) Hollinger. She was baptized at the family farm on Feb. 22, 1935 by Rev. F.A. Miller and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Neudorf on April 10, 1949 by Rev. A. Hippe.
Yvonne attended Pheasant Hills School. In 1963 she moved to the town of Neudorf with her parents, where she was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and worked as church janitor from March 1, 1984 to Nov 1, 1998. Yvonne took great pride in being the church bell ringer; she faithfully rang the bell every Saturday evening, early Sunday mornings and again when church started, as well as when someone passed away and on the day of the funeral.
Yvonne was also a member of the Golden Sunset Seniors Club in Neudorf. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, quilting, playing cards and bingo and putting together puzzles.
In August of 2002, Yvonne moved to Melville to the Queen
Street Manor, where she enjoyed the fellowship of the other residents.
Yvonne was predeceased by her father, Jacob Hollinger on Sept. 13, 1975; and her mother, Emma Hollinger on Jan. 1, 1996; as well as many uncles, aunts and cousins.
She is survived by an uncle, Oswald Ulmer; aunts, Gladys (Keith) James, Grace Ulmer, Mardel (Elroy) Schmidt and Elaine Ulmer; as well as cousins too numerous to mention.
Yvonne’s funeral service was held Thursday, Oct. 20, 2016 at Zion Lutheran Church, Melville with the Rev. John Nieminen officiating. The organist, Dorothy Herman, led in the hymns, “Lord, Take My Hand and Lead Me,” “I’m But a Stranger Here” and “Amazing Grace.”
The pallbearers were Ralph Wendel, Tim Schmidt, Glen Schmidt, Jeff Schmidt, Darren Ulmer and Kelly Ulmer with interment taking place in the Neudorf Cemetery.
Arrangements were entrusted to Matthews Funeral Home, Melville.
