Iris Schick, beloved wife of the late Adolph Schick of Yorkton, Sask., passed away on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at the Yorkton District Nursing Home. She was 89 years of age.
Iris was born on July 3, 1926 at Neudorf, Sask., a daughter of Louie and Eva (nee Bender) Schmidt.
On July 11, 1948, Iris was united in marriage to Adolph Schick in Melville. Following their marriage, the couple worked for a number of farmers in eastern Saskatchewan, namely in the Kipling, Stornoway, Birmingham and Grayson districts. The family then moved to Melville where Iris worked in the hospital. They moved to Moose Jaw later on where Iris worked in a bakery, and then in 1964 they moved to the Springside district where they would farm for the next 20 years. In 1984 the couple retired and moved into Yorkton. In later years, Iris and Adolph became residents of Victoria Court where they became re-acquainted with old friends and establishing new friendships for the following eight years.
Iris also worked at the Food Court in Yorkton and enjoyed gardening and babysitting.
Iris was predeceased by her husband, Adolph; brother, Lawrence; brothers-in-law, John (Alma) and John, Ed and George; and sister-in-law, Evelyn Rathgeber.
She leaves to cherish her memory: sons, Ron (Sharon) of Regina; Dale of Yorkton; and Lyle (Marie) of Brandon, Man.; daughters, Cindy Schick of Yorkton and Lori (Darren) Schindle of Dysart; grandchildren, Tracy (Jason), Ronda (Charles); Carye (Colin), Jody, Dean (Becky) and Ryan; Sherry (Allison), Shannon (Conrad), Sharlene (Allen) and Jason; Corey (Darcie), Kelly (Jeff), Melissa (Billy) and Devon; Nikki (Matthew); Brandy (Dale); Nikolas; Dana (Ben), Derek (Bailie), Dallas (Chloe) and Dalton; great-grandchildren, Jaycee and Kyra; Sara and Kyle; Wyatt and Jaimesen; Kendal and Jase; Harley, Cody, Brady, Tayler and Madison; Havin and Callie; Keenan, Bailee and Preston; Hailey, Kadan, Jessica and Bodi; Cohen; Cadence, William, Danna Lee and Caden; Karter, Brooke and Kruz; Emery; Emma and Ethan; also one great-great-granddaughter, Lorelai; sisters, Doreen Schick, Joan (Al) Isted, Joyce Dagley; brother, Jim (Lorraine) Schmidt; sisters-in-law, Edna Schmidt, Beatrice Schick and Mary Schick; as well as numerous nephews, nieces, and his many other relatives and friends.
A prayer service was held on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 from the chapel of Bailey’s Funeral Home.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, June 23, 2016 from Zion Lutheran Church in Yorkton with Rev. Barry Wood officiating. The organist, Verna Liebrecht, led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, “I Am But a Stranger Here,” “Abide With Me” and “Amazing Grace.” Honourary bearers were all of Iris’s grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great- great-grandchildren.
Interment followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery, with Aldon Schick, Garnet Schick, Kevin Schick, Darren Schick, David Isted and Lloyd Schmidt serving as the casketbearers.
