STATZ – Howard Statz of Melville, Sask., passed away peacefully at the age of 83years, after a courageous battle with cancer, on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Melville with his loving wife and
family by his side.
He leaves behind, his devoted wife of 60 years, Elizabeth; children, Mavis (Larry) Kasbrick, Jack (Deb) Statz and Sharon (Paul) Beaulieu; grandchildren, Amanda (Tyler) Sauvé, Ashley (Jay) Curts, Justin (Samantha) Kasbrick, Brennan Kasbrick, Heather Statz (Zack Maas), Travis Statz, Michelle Beaulieu, Crystal Scott (Chris Tymchuk), Morgan Scott (Shyah Kulbacki) and Braden Scott; great-grandchildren, Chelsea, Lucis, Logan and Maggie Sauvé, Olivia and Jhett Curts, Vaida and Rykr Maas, Kaitlyn Kasbrick and Lionel, Trey, Audun and Karter Scott.
He is also survived by his sister, Olga Kobylko; his sisters-in-law, Eunice Stetz, Mary Cherney and Emily Bohach; his godson, Kevin Smart; and numerous nephews, nieces and many good friends.
Howard was predeceased by his father and mother, Gregory (Jack) and Lena (Kindrat) Statz; his siblings, Mary Harrick, Alice Bohach, Edward Stetz and Lucy Breti; his father and mother-in-law, John and Pearl Marchycha, his brothers-in-law, Paul Harrick, Joe Bohach, Steve Kobylko, Walter Marchycha, Walter Cherney and William Bohach; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Howard was born on the family farm, 10 miles north of Fenwood, Sask., on Dec. 19, 1932. He was the second youngest of six children and received his education at Maxwelton School.
Howard took over the family farm in 1955 when his parents moved to Yorkton, Sask. He met the love of his life, Elizabeth (Betty), at a dance; they were married Feb. 5, 1956 and were blessed with three children, Mavis, Jack and Sharon.
Howard worked off the farm for one winter at Tessier, Sask. as a farm hand. During his farming years, he also worked for the Pool building grain elevators in Saltcoats, Fenwood and Willowbrook, Sask.
Howard loved antiques, auction sales and garage sales. He loved farming, did his own welding, helped out his neighbours and enjoyed many visits with his family and friends.
Howard’s funeral service was held Saturday, June 11, 2016 at First United Church, Melville, with the Rev. Brian Mee officiating. Tributes to Howard’s life were presented by granddaughters, Ashley Curts and Amanda Sauvé. The pianist, Shirley Blakley, and members of the choir. led in the hymns, “Amazing Grace,” “Bringing in the Sheaves” and “The Old Rugged Cross.” All who knew and loved Howard were considered honorary pallbearers.
Interment took place in the Melville City Cemetery with Jay Curts, Zack Maas, Tyler Sauvé, Travis Statz, Justin Kasbrick and Brennan Kasbrick acting as pallbearers.
Arrangements were entrusted to Matthews Funeral Home, Melville.
