SCHICK – Caroline Philippine, Sept. 1, 1918 – March 31, 2016
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Caroline Schick on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at Herb Bassett Home in Prince Albert, Sask. at the age of 97. Caroline was the last remaining member of her family, as she outlived all her siblings and in-laws.
She was born to John and Barbara Schick on Sept. 1, 1918 at Victoria Hospital in Winnipeg, Man. On Dec. 8, 1944, Caroline married Victor Paul Schick in Peace Evangelical Reformed Church. They lived on the farm at Duff, attended the Peace Evangelical and Reformed Church until it closed and later the United Church until it closed. When widowed, she moved to Melville and finally Prince Albert.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking and baking and feeding her family. Caroline’s hobbies were embroidery and cutwork, and later paper tole and drawing. She also enjoyed playing softball and going to dances. Her family was everything — her pride and reason for living. She was a woman of few words with a dry sense of humour, but the message was clear!
Caroline excelled at cooking and baking. Her cabbage rolls and perogies were the best. Anyone who visited her knew you didn’t leave without at least one piece of her awesome pies.
Caroline is survived by her children: Carol (Leonard) Ulmer, and Virginia (Robert) Kutzan; her grandchildren, Candice (Duane) Krip, Ryan (Jill) Ulmer, Curtis (Kandace) Kutzan and Whitney Kutzan (Warren Haley); her great-grandchildren, Steven, Dylan and Carter Krip, and Koden and Ty Ulmer; numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, in-laws and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband, Victor, on March 1, 1989; her siblings and their spouses, Maria, Eleanor (Ivan) Wurts, John Schick, Theodore “Ted” (Helen) Schick, Lydia (Fredrick) Coleman, Ernest (Irene) Schick and William Schick; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, John “Scotty” (Mary) Schick, Adam (Caroline) Schick, Mary (Ed Bierwagen), Adele, Martha (Jacob Krahenbil), Carl, Lionel (Katy Baron), Philip, Samuel (Nellie Smart), Matilda (Albert Trelenberg), Daniel Schick, numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life was held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Gateway Covenant Church, 1500 – 15th Street East, Prince Albert, Sask. with Pastors Seth and Stacia Michael officiating. Interment will be held at a later date at Peace Evangelical and Reformed Church Cemetery near Duff, Sask.
In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made to CNIB and The Lung Association. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray’s Funeral Chapel, (306-922-4729).
