HOEDEL – With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Mary Hoedel (nee Ruhr) on Sunday, Jan. 24, 2016 at the age of 88 years. After a long and full life, mom passed away peacefully at the Pasqua Hospital, Regina, Sask. Left to mourn are her loving husband of 68 years, Lawrence Hoedel; their children, Dennis (Beth) Hoedel, Norma (Martin) Knuth, Debbie (Greg) Miller, Gerry (Robbie) Hoedel, Mervin Hoedel and Lorne Hoedel; grandchildren, Tyson (Kayla), Steven (Lindsey), Garrett, Alison, Tannis, Jesse and Brooklynn; and great-grandchildren, Payton and Breann. Also left to cherish her memory are her brother, George; and sisters-in-law, Shirley, Noreen, Janet and Leila; as well as many nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors.
Mom was predeceased by son, Darrell, in 1973; her parents, Frank and Julia Ruhr; sister, Rose; brothers, Matt, John, Joe and Bill; sister-in-law, Gertie; brother-in-law, George Desrosiers; as well as many in-laws on the Hoedel side.

Mom was born on Nov. 14, 1927 and raised in Dubuc, Sask. and married Lawrence Hoedel in 1947, settling on their own family farm in Grayson, Sask. Mom was a wonderful wife, mother and homemaker and worked very hard raising seven children while helping dad with the farm work.
Mom and dad moved to town in 1974 where they remained until 2014, enjoying living in their own home and community. Mom loved nothing more than tending to her garden, and visits with family and friends. She was a kind and gentle woman and will be sadly missed.
We would like to thank the staff at the care home for their compassion and care during the final months of mom’s life.
In keeping with mom’s wishes, cremation has taken place and her ashes will be buried next to Darrell’s grave at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Grayson in the spring.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2016 at Holy Family Church on 1021 McCarthy Blvd, Regina, Sask., at 10:30 am. Lunch to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Grayson, Sask. S0A1E0.
