PenneyRobert Ernest Penney of Langbank, Saskatchewan, passed away suddenly with his wife Tina on January 25, 2013.
Bob is survived by his children: Patsy (Vern) Mackey of Redcliff, AB, Linda Kilford of Brock, SK, Dorothy (Dan) Jay of Chilliwack, BC, Donna (Ken) Kilford of Brooks, AB, William (Jeanie) Penney of Langbank, SK, and Kenneth Penney of Langbank, SK He is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, a sister Irene Barsi, sisters-in-law Grace Penney and Elizabeth Penney as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his mother & father Dorothy & Ernest Penney, his siblings: Buelah Penney, Phyllis Worley, Pearl (Voakes) Doucette, Mildred Tanner, Gordon Penney and Donald Penney, brothers-in-law Walter Worley, Fred Voakes, Lawrence Doucette, Walter Tanner and Sam Barsi.
Robert was born to Ernest & Dorothy Penney on their farm near Inchkeith, SK. He married Christina Lilly Twells on June 21, 1948. Together they farmed in the Langbank area until 1986 when they moved into Langbank. Robert continued to farm with his sons and even after retirement he would go to the farm everyday. They would travel to Calgary every winter to spend time with Grandma Penney and stay until spring. After Grandma passed they continued to spend winters in Calgary until 2010. They moved to Green Street Apartments in Whitewood in July 2011 where they remained until they passed.
Robert loved to curl and did so until about 75 years of age. He was a charter member of the Lions Club and remained a member  until the club dissolved. He was active in the community and always willing to lend a helping hand. In later years, he enjoyed camping and fishing with friends and family; reading and tinkering in his shop. He loved to build things, especially bicycles and would often ride around town for exercise. Robert loved to walk and you would see him everyday out for his walk. He was always stopping to visit along the way. Robert’s most cherished time was spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services were held at the Langbank Community Complex on Friday, February 1 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Barbara Wilkins officiating. The interment was in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Moosomin. Email or sign the on-line book of condolences at www.carscaddenfuneralchapel.com.
