Date of Birth: November 21, 1940
Date of Death: October 12, 2026
It is with great sadness we say goodbye to our sister and “other mother” Janice Braaten. Janice (Matyjanka) late of Wolseley, SK and formerly of Milestone, SK and Indian Head, SK passed away on Monday, Oct. 12, 2026 at the age of 86 years in Lakeside Nursing Home.
Janice was predeceased by her husband Ken Braaten; parents Frank and Mary Matyjanka; nephew Clayton; twin baby nieces and sister-in-law Joan.
She leaves to mourn her brothers Bob and Don (Karleen); sisters Francie (David) and Carol (Vic); her special nephews, nieces, Goddaughter, friends and family.
Janice was born in the township of Cupar on Nov. 21, 1940. She completed her schooling and went to work in the café in the Sintaluta hotel and then she worked in Wolseley Hospital.
Janice met and married her husband and they took over the family farm near Milestone. They worked there side by side until they retired and moved into town. They enjoyed many years camping and traveling in their camper. After Ken passed, Janice moved to Indian Head to Bell Court and rekindled old and new friendships until ill health made living alone impossible. Janice moved into long-term care in Lakeside Nursing Home in Wolseley until one night an angel came and took her to her forever home to reunite with her beloved dogs.
The family of Janice wish to thank the staff at Lakeside for the care she received there in her last years.
At Janice’s request, a private family graveside gathering will take place at a later date.
