Paul Nieminen passed away on Monday, July 27, 2026, at the Southeast Integrated Care Centre in Moosomin, SK.
Paul was born on March 5, 1942, in Wapella, SK, to Ester and Toivo Nieminen and raised at their family farm in New Finland with his sister and brother. He spent his early days making many memories with his tight-knit group of cousins, providing a lifetime of laughter while reminiscing.
Education was always very important to Paul, and he was able to carry that through to generations of children as a teacher and principal in Fairlight and Killaly. Following this, he was a town administrator for the Resort Village of Melville Beach and the Village of Stockholm and drove school bus for several years. He volunteered countless hours to multiple community organizations throughout his lifetime.
Paul was his happiest while outdoors in any season skiing, fishing, hunting, and connecting with nature. This has been passed down to his children and grandchildren.
Paul was predeceased by his parents, Ester and Toivo; his father- and mother-in-law, Cecil and Ellen Smith; granddaughter Jocelyn; his brother, Wilfred; and two brothers-in-law, Walter and Bill. He will be forever loved and missed by his wife of 60 years, Margaret; sister Marion; sister-in-law Barbara; his children, Brian (Denese), Colin (Shannan), Laura (Steve) and Nicole (Nathan); grandchildren Amanda (Mitchell), Brenden, Keegan (Amanda), Madison, Spencer, Jane, Evan, Willa, Ellie and Theo; great-grandchildren Maddison, Aubree, Paisley, Thalia, and a new one any day; and many extended family members.
