Bert Joseph Yagelnesky, beloved husband to the late Jean Yagelnesky, of Yorkton, SK, and formerly of the Stenen district, passed away at Melody Manor Nursing Home on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at the age of 91 years.
Bert was born on the family homestead in the Stenen district on April 5,1935, to Joseph and Annie (Marchenko) Yagelnesky. Bert was the third youngest in a large family of 12 brothers and sisters. Bert attended Goodhue School. Bert met Jean Scheschuk and were married on Nov. 13, 1954. In 1956, they took over the Yagelnesky family homestead in the Stenen district. In 1968, Bert and Jean moved north of Stenen, SK, where they established a new farmyard and built a new home. This is where they raised their two children, Larry and Lavern. During their early farming years, they focused on grain and livestock. In the later years, Bert and Jean concentrated more on grain farming. Bert was also a grain buyer for Pioneer.
Bert and Jean took great pride in maintaining a beautiful yard, manicured lawn, trees and flower gardens.
One of Bert’s favorite pastimes was to go hunting at Orest’s hunting camp north of Stenen. For many years he hunted moose and deer and always had a story to tell.
Together Bert and Jean enjoyed camping and fishing with friends. They retired from farming in 2000 and moved to Yorkton in 2002.While in Yorkton, they frequented coffee row where they met many new friends.
Bert loved to share jokes and perform practical jokes. His favorite saying was “Good Morning!”
The family would like to extend special thanks to the caregivers at Country Meadow and Melody Manor Nursing Homes for taking care of Bert throughout his later years of life.
Bert was predeceased by his wife, Jean; sons, Larry and Lavern; and parents, Joseph and Annie; brothers, Myron (Victoria), John, Pete, Nick (Eugenia), and Laddie (Lena); and sisters, Jenny (John) Kiryluk, Freida (John) Kostenuk, Mary (George) Mintenko, Nettie (Jim) Bobowski, and Olga (Stan) Hodge; and brothers-in-law, Leo Melenychuk, Howard Peck, Stanley (Helen) Scheschuk, and Ludvick Scheschuk.
Left to mourn Bert is his sister, Grace; brother-in-law, Harry (Pauline) Scheschuk; and many nephews and nieces, great-nephews and nieces, and great-great nephews and nieces, as well as extended family and friends.
A funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, July 13, 2026, from the Chapel of Leson’s Funeral Home, Canora, SK. Interment followed in the Canora Cemetery, Canora, SK, with Phyllis Verbeek officiating. Those wishing to make expressions of sympathy may make donations to Melody Manor – Yorkton and District Nursing Home, Yorkton, SK, as tokens of remembrance, in memory of Bert Yagelnesky.
