Date of Birth: September 13, 1935

Date of Death: February 28, 2026

On the evening of Saturday, Feb. 28, 2026, God gathered His arms around our mom, grandma, sister, aunt and friend and took her home to be reunited with her husband, Norman, and their daughter, Cheryl Lynn; there will be rejoicing in heaven. Marilyn died peacefully at Wolseley Lakeside Home, with family at her side, at the age of 90 years.
Marilyn was born Sept. 13, 1935, on the farm at Lemberg, SK, the third child of John and Annie (Baber) Schick. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lemberg. Marilyn’s faith provided her peace and joy.
On Nov. 15, 1954, Marilyn was united in marriage to Norman. They moved to the farm north of Neudorf where together they would farm livestock, dairy and grains until Norman’s passing in 1999. Farming was a passion for Marilyn, and, with Reg and Harley’s help, she was able to continue to farm the land she and Norman owned. She maintained the books and loved being involved. Norman and Marilyn shared their love for farming with their boys, and today they have four children and eleven grandchildren farming, carrying on the legacy of stewardship.
Marilyn was part of the ladies’ auxiliary at Christ Lutheran Church, Neudorf, where she and Norman attended. She was a founding member of the Melville and District German Heritage Club and loved to sing in the German choir. A favourite pastime for Marilyn was playing the guitar. Norman and brothers and sisters joined in the fun with more instruments and singing. Marilyn treasured gospel music the most. She especially enjoyed helping with the Spring Fling, a favourite annual dance hosted in Neudorf by the German Club; it was an occasion on which she shared her fabulous cabbage rolls.
Marilyn loved to garden, cook and bake and was happiest if the grandchildren showed up to eat, and then stayed to play games and visit. She was blessed with fourteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Marilyn was predeceased by her husband, Norman; their daughter, Cheryl; her parents, John and Annie Schick; her siblings and in-laws, Paul and Elaine (Maurer) Schick, Kenneth Schick and Mary McTaggart, Calvin Schick, Ferdinand Hollinger, Charlene Schick, Peter Maurer, Ernie and Irene Maurer, Gordon Maurer; and her daughter-in-law, Virginia Maurer.
She leaves to mourn her passing and cherish her memory: son Kerry (Becky) of Lemberg, and family Amy (Eric Brown), Corbin and Kadell, Joel, Lennyn, Daniel (Whitney), Barrick, Chase and Trey, David (Qafia), Amari; son Harley of Neudorf, and family Lyndon (Heather), Ella and Addie, Dayton (Alanna), Jason (Charne), Joanna; son Ryan (Lauren) of Grenfell, and family Cassandra (Deven Andrews), Kash and Rhys, Danyka (Mathew Scott), Charlotte, Levi, Mariah (Tyler Kraushaar); son Reg (Cindy) of Lemberg, and family Kyle, Shayne, Connar; her sister, brother, and sisters-in-law, Verena Hollinger of Melville, Elwood Schick of Fort Qu’Appelle, Helen Schick of Edmonton, and Ursula Maurer of Calgary; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Marilyn’s funeral service was held Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Matthews Funeral Home, Melville, with Pastor Barry Maurer officiating. Interment followed in Christ Lutheran Cemetery, Neudorf.
Arrangements are entrusted to Matthews Funeral Home, Melville.
