Velma Elsie Senft was born July 25, 1934, one of 12 children born to Gus and Wanda (nee Platz) Krieger.
Velma was born and raised on the family farm east of Neudorf, Sask. She attended Snowflake School until Grade 8.
Velma was married to Edward Senft on Oct. 25, 1952. The couple farmed at Lemberg, then at Dubuc, finally moving to Esterhazy in 1973. They adopted two children, Gwen in 1964, and Todd in 1966. Velma worked as a custodian for the Esterhazy School Board office and RCMP, as well as being a cherished caregiver to many local families.
In 2002, Velma moved to Melville, Sask., and in 2014 was admitted to St. Paul Lutheran Home, where she resided until her passing.
Velma was predeceased by her parents, Gus and Wanda Krieger; her siblings, Edna (August) Waldbauer, Helen (Wilfred) Waldbauer, Ernie Krieger, Elmer Krieger, Loretta (Wilfred) Schick and Larry Krieger; as well as siblings-in-law Irvin Markwart, Emily Krieger and Wayne Marshall. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Gwen; her son, Todd (Nikki); grandsons Reuben, Gabe and Cristian; and siblings Doreen Markwart, Harold Krieger, Ervin (Maryanne) Krieger, Mavis (Gordon) Yeadon and Carol Marshall.
Velma’s sense of humour endeared her to others. She was a vivacious and tenacious woman who will be dearly missed.
A graveside service was held on Thursday, June 19, 2025, in Christ Lutheran Cemetery, Neudorf, with Deacon Kevin Prouten officiating. Todd Senft and Gwen Senft gave words of remembrance.
