Irene entered her eternal rest on Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2024 at St. Paul Lutheran Home at the age of 96 years.
Irene Holhoyi was born to Frank and Martha (nee Nagy) Holhoyi on June 9, 1928 along with a twin brother Elmer who died at infancy.
Irene received her education at Oak Hill School and her high school at St. Henry’s School in Melville. She completed a commercial course in Yorkton. Irene moved to Saskatoon and worked as a secretary until retiring at the age of 65. She continued to be active in the church in Saskatoon as eucharistic minister taking communion to the shut-ins at St. Ann’s Nursing Home in Saskatoon.
In October 2012 Irene decided to move to Melville to be closer to her family.
Predeceased by her father Frank; mother Martha; sisters, Beth Meckling, Margaret Zinzac, Rose Holhoyi, Agnes Molnar, Julia Molnar, Martha Molnar; brothers, Donavan, Raymond, Daniel, Elmer and Joseph in infancy; brothers-in-law, Emil Zinzac, Charlie Meckling, Ed Molnar, Ted Molnar, Frank Molnar and Harold Novak. Irene leaves to cherish her memory: sisters, Francis Novak and Marion Holhoyi; sister-in-law, Violet Holhoyi; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Prayer service were held on Monday, Sept. 9, 2024 at 7 p.m. from the Chapel of Bailey’s Funeral Home, Melville with deacon David Hudy presiding. The funeral mass was celebrated on Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2024 at 10 a.m. from St. Henry’s Roman Catholic Church in Melville, with Father Melchor Samonte as the Celebrant.
Arrangements were by Bailey’s Funeral and Cremation Care, Melville.
