Date of Death: July 6, 2024
With sadness, the family of Glen Richard Gregg announce his passing on Saturday, July 6, 2024 at age 74 at the Regina General Hospital. He fought a courageous battle with cancer but it was his heart that failed him.
Glen is survived by his wife Sharron Labatt; brother Rodger Gregg (Myrna); nieces Rhonda Seitz (Jack and Jake), Kristie Nickerson (Terry and Rylan). Significant family members include John Cheers (Carolyn), Michael Cheers (Danielle Carlson): grandchildren, Ara Cheers-Hopfauf (Chad, Oliver and Roman), Drew Cheers, Zak Mohr-Cheers. Glen was predeceased by his parents, Lawrence and Janet Gregg.
He attended Argyle Elementary School and Campbell Collegiate in Regina. As a youth he spent summers with his cousins on their family’s farms near Oxbow. You can take the boy out of the country but Glen’s love for the outdoors was part of his being as he enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, boating, motorcycling, gardening, feeding the birds, hockey and an evening fire by the lake.
Upon moving to Fort Qu’Appelle, he and a partner started the Qu’Appelle Valley Canoe Company producing canoes and catamaran sailboats Glen designed. Having learned the building trade working in his father’s construction business in Regina, Glen and Sharron owned and operated G. Gregg Construction Company Ltd. for 35 years, constructing some of the most well designed and built homes in the Qu’Appelle Valley. Some customers have said he elevated his workmanship to the level of artistry. Another said he turned people’s dreams into reality. Glen had an inclination for all things mechanical and when building his home did all the electrical and plumbing work. In his youth he and his Dad built a hotrod, and later Glen rebuilt his car engines to power-up. He was also a gifted musician playing piano, guitar and accordion.
His quiet unassuming manor belied a fiercely independent nature, strongly held beliefs and tremendous work ethic. He was gentle and kind.
Special thanks to my son Michael, to my sisters and siblings, both families, friends and neighbors for your kind words and help at this sad time. Thanks also to Dr. Bashir at the Allan Blair Cancer Center.
A celebration of Glen’s life will take place on Thursday, Aug. 29, 2024 at 2 p.m. at St. Andrew United Church, 194 Bay Ave., Fort Qu’Appelle followed by a gathering at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall, 197 Company Ave., Fort Qu’Appelle, SK. Interment at a later date.
