Date of Birth: November 4, 1929
Date of Death: July 28, 2023
Rose Wolf passed away on Friday, July 28, 2023, at St. Paul Lutheran Home, Melville, SK. She was 93 years of age.
Rose was born in Thorsby, AB, Nov. 4, 1929. She was the second child of Thomas and Helen Dedio, born after Frances, who was only 11 months older. Then followed Stan, Laura, Sophie, John, George and Sam.
The pioneering family worked and played hard. But when Rose was 10 years old, a huge change came. Her dad had an experience with the Lord and accepted him as his Saviour, was baptized and the family changed forever. The animals on the farm even knew their master was different; instead of being afraid of being cussed or kicked, they knew peace and quiet.
Rose and her sister, Frances, went to Bethel Bible School in Saskatoon, where she met Arnold Wolf, and they married on June 30, 1951. She moved to Palmer, SK, to the family farm, where they worked hard for the next 15 years. They had a large garden, which was irrigated from the dugout. No matter how bad the drought, they had vegetables! In 1966, they moved to Lemberg and took over Lloyd’s Service with the IHC dealership. Eventually they bought the Beaver Lumber building, and it became Wolf Equipment. Rose did the bookkeeping for almost 40 years there.
In 1969, Rose and Arnold bought the old Lutheran Manse (202 Rose St.) from Mrs. Dickson. They called this home until Rose went to the hospital in Melville April of 2021. From May 2021, her home was St. Paul Lutheran Home. Arnold also moved to the nursing home April 2022 and passed away May 13, 2022.
Rose and Arnold enjoyed trips to Yugoslavia, Jamaica, Spain, Hawaii, B.C., including Vancouver Island, Nova Scotia and Arizona; closer to home, Manitou Mineral Spa many times and to friends and relatives in Regina, Moose Jaw and Saskatoon. They had one child, Sheri, a son-in-law, Al, and three grandsons, Stephen, Nolan and Jonathan; they all enjoyed several camping and fishing trips to Child’s Lake, Lake of the Prairies and Good Spirit, as well as many other family functions.
In 2002, Rose and Arnold bought a rental house in Regina for their grandsons to live in as they worked or went to university. It ended up that 17 young people lived in that house over the course of six years; then they updated the house and sold it.
Rose loved to read, cook, garden and sew. She made the best roast beef with gravy and mashed potatoes. Her signature dish was raspberry jello, with their own raspberries, and whipped cream in a fancy glass bowl for every family function. Flowers were her passion at home and at work; the geraniums thrived at Wolf Equipment under her care. The big dining table she had purchased with her hard-earned salary from Swift Meats before her marriage saw many lovely meals with large gatherings of friends and family with Rose happily serving everyone on her Silver Maple china.
In 2006, Rose was diagnosed with a glomus tumour in her left ear. After refusing a conventional 10-hour surgery, she had gamma knife surgery, which was fairly successful. She could not hear out of that ear, but her voice came back.
As Rose got older and could not garden or cook big meals anymore, she would sit and watch her beloved birds – the orioles, chickadees and hummingbirds. Though she suffered a great deal from Dercum’s disease, she tried to be positive and keep doing everything she could. Her constant source of comfort and strength was her Lord and Saviour, Jesus.
Rose was predeceased by her parents; siblings Frances Clements, Stan, Laura Wolf, John and George; brother-in-law Paul Wolf; sisters-in-law Sharon and Janet; brother-in-law Ron Anderson; and grandson Stephen.
Hers was a life well and fully lived. Proverbs 31:31: Honour her for all her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.
A graveside service was held to honour Rose’s life on Friday, Aug. 4, 2023, in the Lemberg and District Cemetery, Lemberg, with the Rev. Brian Mee officiating. Wallace Kennedy provided the music and Dwayne Wolf, Reece Wolf, Grant Wolf, Sam Wolf, Nolan Bales and Jonathan Bales acted as pallbearers.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Matthews Funeral Home, Melville.
