We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved mother, baba and sister on Saturday, Jan. 1, 2022 at the age of 81. After a short and courageous battle with cancer, Kathy passed away peacefully with family by her side in the Palliative Care Unit, Regina Pasqua Hospital.
Kathy was born Sept. 16, 1940 on her parents farm south of Leross, third child of John and Mary (Kowalchuk) Olinik. Kathy’s greatest love was her family. She always enjoyed visits and telephone chats with her children, grandchildren, relatives and friends. Her second greatest love was her huge garden which resulted in many different types of preserves for all to enjoy. Kathy enjoyed life on the farm and was proud to be a farmer.
Kathy was predeceased by her husband Orest; parents, John and Mary Olinik; mother and father-in-law, Annie and Isaac Kotylak; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Reg Cybulski; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Emil Gebert; brother-in-law, Jack Winniski; and sister-in-law, Vicky Olinik. Also predeceased by members of Orest’s family.
She will forever be loved and remembered by her daughter, Gail (Kim) Senft and grandchildren, Dale (Tracey) and Jason (Sara); son, Daryl (Corena) and grandchildren, Kirsten (Jared) and Matthew (Payton). Also survived by siblings, Bill (Helen) Olinik, Anne Winniski, Helen (Lionel) Bolen and John (Janice) Olinik; and numerous other relatives including Orest’s siblings and spouses and many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses of the Pasqua Hospital Oncology and Medicine Unit, Fort Qu’Appelle All Nations’ Healing Hospital and Allan Blair Cancer Centre for their care during this difficult time, with a special thank you to the doctors and nurses of the Palliative Care unit for their exceptional care and compassion during her final days.
