Katharine “Kay” Nielsen (née Myskiw) of Grenfell, Sask. died peacefully at Lakeside Home, Wolseley, Sask. on Sunday, March 3, 2019 at the age of 98.
Katharine is survived by her husband, Paul; daughters, Frances Passmore and Corrine Hutton; sons, Richard, Michael, Christian and Craig; her brother, James Myskiw; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great- grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her youngest son, Colin; son-in-law, Larry Passmore; and daughter-in-law, Aline.
Katharine was born on April 17, 1920 in Gimli, Man. to Mike and Anne Myskiw. She grew up on a farm and spent her married life primarily as a homemaker, putting all her energy into raising her children and taking care of her family.
Her children remember her as a fair, loving and compassionate mother who supported them and encouraged them to pursue their goals. Katharine loved animals and she enjoyed singing and music. She was a generous and intelligent individual who loved to read and to do word puzzles.
She was an active and dedicated a member of the Peace Lutheran Church in Grenfell, as her limited mobility allowed.
The funeral service will be held in Peace Lutheran Church, Grenfell, Sask. on Friday, March 15, 2019 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Gerald Andersen officiating with lunch to follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Katharine’s life.
