Date of Birth: April 6, 1927
Date of Death: February 22, 2019
It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of our dear brother, uncle and friend, William Temple.
William (Bill) Temple of Melville, SK. passed away on Friday, Feb. 22, 2019 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Melville, at the age of 91 years.
Bill was born to Michael and Elizabeth (nee Hollinger) Temple on April 6, 1927 at Goodeve, SK. Bill was the oldest of seven children. He received his education at the Sheppard School District. He grew up on the family farm and later farmed with his brother, Albert.
As a younger man he enjoyed curling and playing ball. His passion was taking road trips. He would get in his car and go. The trips might be short trips to visit family and neighbors or longer trips to the lake. He enjoyed picking saskatoons for making pies. He loved to garden — always having fresh tomatoes and peas to eat straight from the garden.
Woodworking was another passion he liked to do. We are sure that everyone in his family has something that he made. Stools, TV trays, birdhouses and even doll cribs were just a few items to mention. He also enjoyed making perogies with his sisters and playing cards.
He served as a councillor for the RM of Stanley and on the wheat board.
Bill was married to Emily Rathgeber (Kammer) in 1978. They remained on the farm until their retirement into Melville. In 2008, Emily passed away. A few years later, in 2015, he sold his home and moved into a seniors housing where he enjoyed having coffee every day with his neighbors and playing cards.
In 2017, Bill moved to Aspen Bluff in Yorkton, SK. In December of 2018 he became ill and needed more care. His new home became the Pioneer Lodge in Ituna, SK.
Bill was predeceased by his wife, Emily; his parents, Mike and Elizabeth; brothers, John and Charlie; brothers-in-law, Sam Smuk, Otto Leier and John Heuchert; sister-in-law, Lorraine Temple; nephews, Leslie Temple and Victor Nicholls; and niece, Wendy Heuchert.
He leaves to cherish his memory: brother, Albert (Phyllis); and sisters, Gertie Leier (Smuk), Lydia (Peter) Bohay, Eleanor Heuchert; sister-in-law, Rose Temple; and many nieces, nephews and his extended family, Linda and Donny Schurko and family.
The funeral service was held on Saturday, March 2, 2019 from Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Melville with Rev. Doug Schmirler officiating.
Arrangements were by Bailey’s Funeral Home, Melville.
