Nellie Agnes (Urzada) Simmonds passed away peacefully at the Balcarres Integrated Care Centre on Thursday, Aug. 9, 2018.
A remembrance service will be held at St. Andrew’s United Church, Fort Qu’Appelle on Saturday, Aug. 18 at 2 p.m.
Nellie was predeceased by her husband, Ronald James; parents, Thomas Urzada and Annie Terry; and six brothers and sisters.
She is survived by children: Ronald Wayne (Elizabeth), Valorie and Barry (Audrey); grandchildren, Tracey (Fern), Colin, Devin (Dionne) and Elyse (Graeme); and great-grandchildren, Aiden, Lucas, Corbin, Evan and Avery.
Nellie was born on April 27, 1923 near Gerald, Sask. She was raised on a farm at Gerald and after completing her high school education, she went on to attend Normal School and pursued a career in teaching
While teaching at Eskdale School she met the love of her life, Ronald. Nellie and Ron worked on the farm raising their family. She also continued as a substitute teacher over the years.
Nellie was very involved in the UCW, and enjoyed curling at Crosthwaite rink. Her passion was growing and showing flowers at local horticultural fairs. Nellie and Ron retired to Fort Qu’Appelle after selling the farm.
