Reta was born on May 11, 1927 in the Orkney District. She attended school in Orkney and Climax and then Normal School for her teaching degree. She married Norman Schick on July 16, 1949 in Swift Current.
Reta taught at the Thorn School and also the Braddock School. Following that she worked at the Co-op in Duff, SK and was the village administrative secretary. Reta was a Red Cross representative for 30 years and was also involved with the United Church Woman’s Group and the Recreation Club in Duff.
In her spare time, Reta enjoyed gardening, music and dancing, knitting, puzzle books, jigsaw puzzles, ceramics, making quilts, playing cards, spending time with her family and writing poems for special occasions.
Reta was a feisty little lady, who could hold her own in any family discussion. She was a true friend to all, young and old. She was also ready to lend a hand whenever needed. She never missed special events, such as family gatherings, sporting events of the grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and school events, if she was able.
Reta loved to be on the go. If any of us were going somewhere, she was ready to go no matter how long. Planning and organizing were her specialties and we’re all going to miss Nana’s input into future events.
In Reta’s memory, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
