Students from the Parkland College firefighter training program use foam to suppress a diesel fire on “The Cake,” a multi-layered structure located on the training grounds east of the Melville airport. Students learned that since diesel fires can’t be put out with straight water, adding foam helps eliminate the fire’s oxygen. The trainees learned three methods in applying foam. Holding the hose are Dominic Ilijevski (18), Brett Wendel (25) and instructor Wayne Ferguson.
