BAUMGARTEN – Mary Baumgarten of Ituna Pioneer Lodge and formerly of Melville, Sask., widow of the late William Baumgarten. Mary passed away on Thursday, Dec. 17, 2015 at the age of 98 years.
Mary was born on July 15, 1917 in the Melville district of Saskatchewan to John and Catherine (nee Protsko) Tuchivski.
Mary was united in marriage to William Baumgarten in December 1946.
Mary spent many years with her husband, Willie, running restaurants in Montreal and Toronto, and always enjoyed working in the restaurant business. She loved to garden and enjoyed cooking. She liked to travel and during the years she lived down east, Mary took many trips back and forth to New York and Florida. She enjoyed driving her car on several trips back to Saskatchewan to visit family.
Mary always had a smile for everyone and enjoyed visiting friends and family. She had a special place in her heart for her great-great-niece, Emmalyn Ann, daughter of her great-niece, Sara.
She lived on her own until 2009 when poor health made it necessary to move to St. Anne’s Care Home in Ituna. She made many friends during her time at St. Anne’s and enjoyed her time there. In 2013 she moved to Ituna Pioneer Health Care Centre where she was cared for by the wonderful staff.
Mary is predeceased by her father, John Tuchivski; mother, Catherine Tuchivski; brother, John Tuchivski; sister, Martha Bernhardt; and brothers-in-law, Johnny Bemhardt and Jim Carsonn; and her husband, William Baumgarten.
Mary is survived by her sister, Anne Carsonn; and two nieces and several nephews.
Her family thanks all those who took time to visit Mary and brighten her days.
Arrangements were by Bailey’s Funeral Home, Melville.
