At 8:53 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2015, Melville RCMP were called to a two vehicle collision on Highway #10, just south of the Melville highway by-pass.
Initial investigation has revealed that a three person side-by-side ATV with two occupants travelling northbound on the highway crossed the centre line collided with a van travelling southbound. Interviews with witnesses have revealed that a deceased deer was lying on the shoulder of the highway prior to the collision. This is believed to be a factor in the collision.
At this stage of the investigation, evidence suggests that neither seatbelts nor helmets were in use at the time of the accident. The side-by-side was equipped with seatbelts in the seating area and a cargo area in the back. The 25-year-old female driver from Melville was pronounced deceased at hospital in Regina. Her name will not be released at this time. The 33-year-old female passenger from Ituna was transported to hospital in Regina with undetermined injuries.
The driver and one passenger in the van, both from Duff, Sk. were transported to hospital in Melville with undetermined injuries and have since been released.
An RCMP collision reconstructionist from Yorkton continues to investigate with Melville RCMP.
