Alex SzellAlex Szell of Whitewood was born in Igasfalva, Hungary on October 15, 1917. He came to Canada in 1924 with his parents and on November 15, 1945 he married the love of his life, Muriel McCaw.  The happy couple mixed farmed on their farm which bordered both the Sunnymede and Popular Grove Districts. Alex and Muriel moved to Whitewood in 1977 to their current location. He was a charter member of the Whitewood Elks Branch #410. He delivered meals on wheels regularly for 22 years. Alex served as steward for the Whitewood United Church for 6 years as well for the Langbank United Church prior to moving.  He sat on the Saskatchewan Housing Board for 6 years. Alex was an avid golfer and helped build the local golf cart shed. He loved to curl and socialize at old time dances if he wasn’t playing his violin. Alex was very talented playing many key and string instruments; he was also known for making violins and restoring instruments.

Alex was predeceased by his parents Michael Sr. and Rose (Nagy) Szell; his only sibling, Michael Jr.; sisters-in-law Margaret (McCaw) (Card) Armstrong, Pat (McCaw) Keeler and Anne (Kalaman) McCaw; and brothers-in-law Norman Card, Leigh Armstrong, Arnott Robinson, Dale Armstrong, Douglas McCaw and Tom Keeler.  Alex is survived and sadly missed by his loving wife of 67 years, Muriel. He also leaves to mourn a sister-in-law, Madaline (McCaw, Robinson) Armstrong; brothers-in-law Jim McCaw (Anne) and Daniel McCaw; as well as eight nieces and nephews, 24 great-nieces and nephews and 4 great-great- nieces and nephews; along with numerous cousins.

The funeral service was held  Friday, March 22, 2013 at the Whitewood United Church. Interment will take place at a later date.
