Muriel Margaret Schultz (née Armbruster), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away surrounded by the love of her family on Friday, Sept. 11, 2026. Born on Dec. 19, 1937, in the Neudorf community, Muriel was the eldest child of John and Lena Armbruster.
Muriel grew up in the Neudorf area alongside her siblings, Duane, Clarence, and Sandra. A gifted student, she attended Ulmer School in Neudorf and was known for completing 12 years of learning in just eight years. Her inquisitive nature and attention to detail even earned her the nickname “teacher’s pet”.
At a dance in Killaly, Muriel met the love of her life, Wilfred Schultz. After seven years of courtship, they were married on July 22, 1963. Together they built a life rooted in love, faith, hard work, and family. Wilfred often joked that he had taken “the best part of Neudorf” and moved it to Grayson, where they established their home and raised their family on the original Schultz homestead southwest of Grayson.
Muriel was truly a woman of many talents. As a devoted homemaker, she managed the daily tasks of farm and
family life with skill and dedication. She became known for her cream, exceptional cottage cheese, and caring
attention to the chicken, cattle and dairy operation. A master seamstress, knitter, quilt maker and craft maker, Muriel poured creativity and love into everything she made. Her family fondly remembers the prize-winning Halloween costumes she crafted year after year or baby blankets that she dedicated to several of her grandchildren (as long as she was still able to do so).
Resourceful, determined, and extraordinarily hardworking, Muriel was the person who could solve any problem she set her mind to. She approached life’s challenges with perseverance and practicality, qualities that inspired everyone who knew her. Coffee was always on for her friends both east and west of the family farm.
Faith, community, and service were important parts of Muriel’s life. She served as a council board member at
Neudorf Christ Lutheran Church and as a leader in St. Mary’s Parish Women’s Group in Grayson. She also enjoyed fellowship and friendship through the Melville quilting and crocheting club and the women’s bowling league.
Muriel found joy in quilting, crocheting while watching her favorite game shows, sewing for her family, crafting and listening to Charlie Pride while quietly playing solitaire in her bedroom and besting Wilfred at cribbage. Another big source of pride for Muriel was sharing her talents through the delicious soups she prepared for Nellie’s Bakery.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, Wilfred Schultz; her sister, Sandra Schlamp; her children, Timothy (Brenda) Schultz, Cathy (Bernard) Gerhardt, Bradley (Heidi) Schultz, and Murray (Jerri) Schultz; 14
incredible grandchildren and step-grandchildren, and 13 treasured great-grandchildren.
Muriel was predeceased by her parents, John and Lena Armbruster; her brothers, Duane and Clarence Armbruster; and her brother-in-law, Mervin Schlamp.
Muriel’s legacy lives on in the family she cherished, the quilts and creations she lovingly made, the values she
instilled, and the countless lives she touched through her generosity, strength, and unwavering love. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. from Christ Lutheran Church in Neudorf, Sask. with Pastor Ronald Shumba Officiating. The music for the service was provided by St. Mary’s Church Choir from Grayson.
Arrangements were by Bailey’s Funeral and Cremation Care, Melville.
