Agnes Eva Exner passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Monday, Aug. 24, 2026, at St. Peter’s
Hospital in Melville, SK.
Agnes was born on Aug. 4, 1929, on the family farm near Waldron, SK, to John and Margaret Appel. She grew up on the family farm helping with farm work, babysitting and later working at Esterhazy and Melville hospitals.
On June 7, 1949, Agnes married Tony Exner. Together they farmed and raised their family. Agnes was a dedicated farm wife and homemaker who took pride in creating a warm and welcoming home for her family and friends. When they retired from the farm, Agnes and Tony moved to Killaly and later to Melville.
Agnes enjoyed her retirement with many close friends, coffee visits, and cherished time with family.
Agnes will be lovingly remembered by her five children: Mona Lipinski, Glenn (Lorna) Exner, Darlene Exner, Larry (Patricia) Exner and Colleen (Mark) Wihlidal; 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren; brother Raymond (Marlene) Appel; numerous nephews and nieces; special friend Leona Hall; and
brother-in-law Zach Bernhardt. Agnes was predeceased by her husband, Tony; parents John and Margaret Appel; her son, Eugene Exner; her son-in-law, Frank Lipinski; her brothers, Wilfred and Jack Appel; and sister Alvina
Bernhardt.
The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the doctors and staff at St. Peter’s Hospital for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Agnes may be made to St. Peter’s Hospital Foundation, Melville, SK.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for Agnes on Monday, Aug. 31, 2026, at St. Henry’s Roman Catholic Church, Melville, with the Rev. Fr. Melchor Samonte and Deacon Dave Hudy celebrating. Interment followed in the St. Elizabeth’s Parish Cemetery, Killaly.
Arrangements were entrusted to Matthews Funeral Home, Melville.
