It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Leslie Edward Hack of Grenfell, SK on Saturday, Dec. 13 at the age of 88 years.
Leslie was born on the family farm in the Weldon District, northwest of Grenfell, to Arnold and Alma Hack on June 5, 1937. He was the oldest of three children. Les was baptized and confirmed at Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church in the Weldon District. He attended Weldon School until he began working on the family farm. Les took on the family farm in 1959 and on July 22, 1960 he married Ingeborg Schlamp. They were blessed with three sons and a daughter. Les and Inge retired and they moved to Grenfell in 1997.
Les was an avid sportsman, playing hockey with the Grenfell Spitfires and Indian Head Chiefs and fastball for the Grenfell Gems for many years. After his playing days, he coached his children and others. Les enjoyed traveling to see his grandchildren and watching them take part in any of their numerous activities. He was a very dedicated church member at Peace Lutheran Church in Grenfell and served on the church council for many years. Les was a kind and generous person, always ready to help family, friends or neighbors.
Les is survived by his loving wife Inge of 65 years; three sons: Tim (Jacque), Brian (Kimberley) and Darren (Melissa); one daughter Andrea Wills (Trent); eight grandchildren: Parker Hack, Spencer Hack (Rob), Tegan Hack (Stephan), Josh Hack, Faith Hack (Josh), Travis Hack
(Marlie), Noah Wills (Sydney) and Levi Wills; two great-grandchildren Eva Hack and Ember Hack; brother Larry Hack (Dorothy); sister-in-law Ursula Hack; brother-in-law Richard Schlamp (Gwen); and numerous nieces and nephews.
Les was predeceased by his brother Ken Hack; sisters-in-law Louise Waldbauer and Gertrude Geres; brothers-in-law Charlie Waldbauer and Jerry Geres; daughter-in-law JoAnne Hack and grandsons Logan Hack and Grady Wills.
The family would like to sincerely thank the wonderful staff at Indian Head Union Hospital and Wolseley Memorial Hospital for their compassionate care over the past two months. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to Peace Lutheran Church, Box 520, Grenfell, SK S0G 2B0 or the Grenfell Athletic Association, Box 929, Grenfell, SK S0G 2B0.
Les’s wishes were for no formal funeral service. A private family service will take place at a later date. The inurnment will take place in the Grenfell Cemetery.
