Date of Birth: August 3, 1929
Date of Death: December 18, 2023
It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and soon to be great-great-grandmother, Clara Pletz. She died peacefully with family at her side at the Balcarres Integrated Care Center on Monday, Dec. 18, 2023, at the age of 94.
Clara was predeceased by her parents, Herbert and Susan (Schill) Hoffarth; her loving husband, George Pletz; grandchildren, Troy, Sabrina, Michael and Corey Pletz; great-grandson Joshua Pletz; sisters, Josephine Kosedy, Mary Duelien, Sister Dorothy Hoffarth, Sally Brodner and Margaret Pawelko; and brothers, James Hoffarth and Thomas Hoffarth.
Left to mourn her passing are her brother, Lionel Hoffarth; sister Shirley Logel; her children: Larry (Joyce) Pletz, Tony (Jocelyn) Pletz, Lloyd Pletz, Connie Folk, Gerald (Rita) Pletz and Karen (Raymond) Metz; 24 precious grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren and a special great-great-grandchild on the way.
Mom was born in a farm house south of Lebret. She was the middle child of a family of 10. When she was 15, her family moved to the north side of the Valley, to Grandpa’s homestead which still stands today. Her life consisted of farm work, milking cows, working the fields and gardens and watching over her younger siblings. At age 21, she married George and moved to his homestead across the field.
They went on to raise six children in a loving and faith filled home. Mom was involved with teaching Catechism, 4-H, belonged to the CWL for 37 years and gave to her church and community through her years of service. Mom loved music, dancing and singing, knitting, crocheting and drawing. She was very artistic. Her interests were in family history and she started compiling information in the 60s and made the first Family History Books for all four sides of her and Georges lines. She loved baking, cooking and gardening and canned so many foods. Her greatest joy was her flowers and she could grow and start anything in her little greenhouse. She taught the Catholic faith and passed that belief to her children. Her humor was contagious and found joy in everyday life, looking for the blessings in the moment. They moved off the farm and into Fort Qu’Appelle in 1979 due to George’s declining health due to cancer. He passed in 1982 and Clara maintained her house and yard until 2006 when she moved into Woodbine Manor. In July 2021 she moved into the Wolseley Integrated Care Center and by March 2022 transferred to the Balcarres Integrated Care Center where she passed.
Thank you to the staff at BICC, especially Amanda, Roldan, Kayla, Sadie, Jenny and so many others who touched mom’s heart and became part of her family. Thank you for your compassionate care especially during her journey to Gods’ loving arms. Thank you also to Michelle, Alex and Dr. Cozman for your guidance and support during this difficult time.
