Ronald James Walton was born Aug. 17, 1946 in Balcarres to John and Margaret (Mackenzie) Walton.
Ron married the love of his life, his high school sweetheart, Patricia Waltz, at the Sacred Heart Parish in Lipton on Oct. 5, 1968. They lived in Regina, where their daughter Trina was born in 1971, later their son Trent was born in Outlook in 1973 and their daughter Erin was born in Foam Lake in 1979.
He attended and graduated school in Lipton SK, then attended the U of R where he obtained a certificate in Local Government Administration. He worked for SGIO and later for the Government of Saskatchewan, Home Owner Grants Dept. His occupation as a rural and urban municipal administrator later allowed them to live in many different areas in Saskatchewan. He worked for the RMs in Lipton, Conquest, Lacadena, Town of Foam Lake, City of Melville, RMs of Orkney and Wallace. In 2005 after a very interesting 34-year career in municipal government, Ron retired and worked for the Chamber of Commerce in Melville, and then again retiring in 2013.
Ron was always interested in sports. He played football, curled, golfed and later bowled. He was a Saskatchewan Rider and Melville Millionaire season ticket holder for many years. He loved camping, fishing, hiking, playing ball and swimming with his family and walking his dogs. Spending time with his grandchildren was his joy. Ron also had a love of music and theatre. He performed in musicals and many dinner theatres. He was a member of the St. Henry’s Men’s Choir, and other choirs over the years. Other interests were collecting model trains, gardening, reading, star gazing and traveling.
Ron was a Scout leader, member of the Air Cadets, Foam Lake Elks, Melville Rail Station Heritage Association, Knights of Columbus Third and Fourth Degree, alumni of the Lay Formation Program with the Archdiocese of Regina, World Wide Marriage Encounter, parish council, lay
presider, lector and eucharistic minister at St. Henry’s Parish. Ron always volunteered wherever he was needed.
Ron peacefully entered his eternal rest at the age of 76 with his family at his side, on Sunday, March 5, 2023 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Melville, after a long, tough and courageous journey with Alzheimer’s.
Ron is survived by his loving wife Pat; their children and grandchildren: Trina (Grant) Miller, Carlan Miller (Amanda Washek) and Catherine Miller; Trent (Justine) Walton, Bennett and Gayle Walton; Erin Walton (Kait Dinunzio) and Ruth Dinunzio; brother-in-law Ivan (Lorraine) Waltz; niece Annalee (Richard) Carlson, Hailey and Ryland Carlson; nephew Curtis (Rebecca) and Con Waltz.
Ron was predeceased by his parents, John and Margaret Walton; brother Glenn Walton; his grandparents, James and Nellie Walton, Susan and Achibald MacKenzie; uncle Allan Walton; in-laws, Joseph and Margaret Waltz.

The prayer service was held on Friday, March 17, 2023 from St. Henry’s Roman Catholic Church in Melville with deacon David Hudy presiding. The funeral mass was celebrated on Saturday, March 17, 2023 from St. Henry’s Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Dennis Remot as the Celebrant and Fr. Andrew Sowa, OMI, as the Concelebrant.
Arrangements were by Bailey’s Funeral and Cremation Services, Melville.
