Senior basketball teams from Indian Head High School (IHHS) and Bert Fox Community High School played in the 3A regional tournaments last weekend, seeking a win that would send them to HOOPLA.
The IHHS senior girls’ team hosted Esterhazy for their first game of the regional tournament on Friday evening. The Indian Head Broncs finished with a 72 to 21 win and earned their place at the finals. On Saturday afternoon, the girls hosted St. Walburg, which had beaten Kamsack the previous night, 105 to 51. Unfortunately, the girls from Indian Head were unable to keep up their momentum and lost to St. Walburg, 38 to 60. Although the team was disappointed not to be going to HOOPLA next weekend, Coach Dave Clark commended the girls for their determination during the season.
“Losing is hard, especially when you put every fibre of your soul into achieving your goal. But it is that kind of commitment that leads to change. The kind of change that leaves an imprint on a person that will never go away,” he shared via the team’s social media page.
Indian Head’s senior boys team had a similar experience at their regional tournament in Fort Qu’Appelle. They played against Biggar on Friday evening and won, 102 to 75, leading to a game between Indian Head and Bert Fox. The Fort Qu’Appelle boys had beaten Langenburg on Friday, 89 to 55. The Indian Head and Fort Qu’Appelle teams both fought hard on Saturday afternoon and Bert Fox took the win, 89 to 63, earning their place at HOOPLA. The Fort team will play Regina Christian at the provincial championship in Prince Albert on March 24.
